I'd need more exact information before I could lay out an exact plan for that, but I would suggest that you mount it by screw,if that's at all possible - I'm new to the structures of these things, I'm just assuming that there's something you can drill into.
On the subject of dragging: I came across a similar situation with my 1:18th C5 Corvette (rest in peace). I had an actual muffler attached to the pipe, so this wasn't really an option for me, but if you cut the ends at equal (but inverse) angles, then you could point the pipe upward past the body and cut some ground clearance at the same time. Two birds with one stone, I would say, since I like that mounting style.
