I think somebody did this once.

They took a Bit or Zip, cut the chassis in half, used a AA battery holder to hold the 3 batteries and it also functioned as a stressed member of the chassis.

They put a stretched Yellow ZZ mustang body on it. It had bit rims.

Should work perfectly, just be sure you don't tweak the chassis too badly when you do it.
