Well I tried it. removed the wheels, tires and the flat gear, then I played with both car and transmitter until I felt I had equal "throw" of the servo pinion gear in both directions and there was no servo stutter. Then I replaced the flat gear (Centered of course as best as I could), reassembled the car, and fine tuned with the car adjustment screw...
... No difference in sensitivty at all. Same thing. When turning right the car is more responsive (2 steps of steering) when turning left, less responsive, (3 to 4 steps)...This leads me to believe it might be a controller issue... Perhaps I'll break that open and see if I can adjust the steering wheel potentiometer... I'm debating that one though.
Odd thing... At top speed, steering seems even in both directions. Could it be that this is by design to make up for torque steering that happens at speed? I doubt it, but I thought I'd just put that out there....
