question about a peak charger. (regards to power supply)
the pinnacle peak charger will do 1-14 cells. but it doesnt have an a/c cord to plug into the wall. it requires 12 volts at 5Amps. can i use a computer power supply to
power this badboy? doing some random reasearch, it seems like 250watt power supplies have approx a 10A rating and 400watt ps has a approx 28A rating. so either ps i have would work in theory. has anybody used a computer ps for this purpose before? cause i really dont think it's practical using a car battery to peak charge a multi cell mini rc. and 5amp power supplies are $$$ from rat shak/hobby shops. i'm even willing to open up the power supply and use thicker guage wiring. i just need to know if they can hold up to the current draw. also i'll only be charging 1-8 cells..so it's not like i'll charge at a full 5A ever. thanks |
Here's a couple of thoughts for ya...
- I know someone who has a Peak Charger with the 12v requirement and he uses one of those backup car battery chargers, so that's a thought - Screw Radio Shack...Look for a Pyramid brand Power Supply. I myself bought the PS-9KX. You should be able to find one for under $40 - No clue about using a computer Power Supply, interesting idea though...Good luck with it if you try that route. |
