How the hell do you get the front wheels off?
 

I've searched all through the threads and couldn't find much specific info on separating the front wheels from the knuckles. I've tried everything to get the front axle out and it won't budge. Any good tips or suggestions appreciated. TIA

I find it difficult to believe that you haven't found threads about front wheel stuff here.

Use needle nose pliers to CAREFULLY hold the pin while pulling the knuckle and twisting.

Many other techniques work for this as well.

Well, I didn't NOT find the threads, but I wasn't able to glean any great methods. I read on QFM about drilling a hole in a phone book and pounding it through, but it seems like one slip and your knuckle is toast. I tried this, but unless you take a pretty hefty swing with the hammer, it didn't budge. The alignment of the wheel on the axle seems so critical to handling that I didn't want to just use brute force to rip it out.

Sorry for wasting your time, I just thought someone might have a good tip.

Did you try the trick with the pliers?

I have done several front wheel mods, and haven't had any trouble with alignment.

It's not an inteligence thing, it's a "young people are into this, and might not know what to do yet" kind of thing.
Name calling isn't really called for here.
I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic.

It's just that modifications are what drives this hobby (I think) and you can't be on one of these boards for very long before finding a front wheel mods thread SOMEWHERE!
If not here, then MicroRC, or even RCmod!

The sarcasm was pretty thick there, thanks for picking up on that... I was making the point, in a butthole kind of way, that your reply to SuperFly's post was extremely and unnecessarily condescending. You make it sound like your having a freakin' stroke over a simple question.

I have found the easiest, least damaging way to remove the fron pins is to use my Dremel rotary tool (with the adjustable chuck).

Carefully, I tighten the chuck on the head of the axle pin, turn the dremel on to lowest setting, give the whole thing a gentle tug, and in two seconds, the pin is out.

Doesn't damage the wheel, doesn't damge the axel, doesn't damage your knuckles.

I haven't heard of that one before!

So we have:

1) the simple pull apart

2) the nail, hammer and phonebook trick

3) needlenose pliers pin pull and twist

4) Dremmel pin twist and pull

5) The tooth pull (not reccomended)

The easiest way I found was to just heat the pin up with a soldering iron and then just pull it out!

I've seen alot of posts to this effect, but I don't really see the need to potentially mess up the alignment of those pins (and your front wheels) by heating them up and melting the plastic that holds them.
Come to think of it, it presents a hazard to the wheels too, doesn't it?

If it works for you, that's cool, but I can't recommend it.

I used to be able to do the tooth pull with all my friends clones. Then I tried it on a Microsizer & the damn thing wouldn't come off!! Microsizer kunckles are the only part of the car that suck.
