What mods have people done for drag racing? Has anyone done anything to reduce steering travel in the front wheels and improve the straight line? What about weight and friction reduction?

I have a Supra set up for drag racing. It's not totally modified, except for a 3.8 motor, tight gold plated springs(a must for dragging), super soft razor cut tires, and a stubb for a antenna. With 3 consecutive charges this car smokes. I race it in the tennis courts behind my apartments. It's too perfect, cause the pavement is perfectly smooth with a sandpaper finish, and the lines are already marked...

very nice, what did you use for the grill on the front?

The grill is made from SS screen from the faucet. When I put in the water filter it hit me like a brick, that the screen is way more useful in my car than in some 'ol stupid faucet...LOL

Very nice! Could you describe what you did to the tires? What kind of times are you getting with it? What cell are you using?

I with Tiny on the tires? What dod you use for "super soft razor cut tires"?

For the tires, first I found the softest tires, which came on a mini movers clone. I don't know why that is, but they are really flimsy. Second, I sanded the tires down with course sanpaper on a piece of wood. This leaves the tires with a very soft worn grippy feel, and last but not least, I put a series of small cuts in the tires. These cuts are done at an angle, and in the shape of an X. Making the cuts this way does make a difference in performance. The car will still peel out in reverse, which is the way I want it, but when you floor it, there is no slip at all. The cuts will flex and grip..

I still run a stock batt. for one reason, and that is I know if I upgrade all my batts before they're used I'll never downgrade to them later, and they'll never get used, so I might as well use em first. I still don't have any times yet, but I'm guessin that they are around 5.00-6.00 sec.

Cool mod. Has anyone tried soaking tires in traction compound or similar to create a softer tire?

i modded my bcg for drag but then i put it back to its original state.....

the only thing i did was make it so it couldnt turn.......

first u take out the sway bar.....

then add springs that are long so that they are very stiff.......

by doin so u make it so hard for the knucles to turn that it doesnt......

therefore your bcg can only go forward......

one thing i have to say............i have gone back to DRAG........

i have a lowered front(springs) heightened rear(tires) 2.6 motor wit dual NiMH batts. wheelie bar and roll cage

rear tires - i went to the hardware store and saw some rubber washers for plumming or sumthing...they fitted on the axles but it touched the body....so i remove the rims and gear and made a longer axle.....so now i have a wide rear with wide tires.....o yeah they have really good traction and u can tread them n e way u want cuz theyre thick.....

roll cage - i took some paperclips and started to straighten them out.....then i bent them perfectly so that they fit onto the chassis snugly....the i bent some more to make like a dome cage and front bumper.......

I always assumed that a lowered front end was better for dragging...

Someone mentioned using longer length springs in front to get stiff resistance to steering. What a great idea! I never thought of that, though I know it really does work, but doesnt it raise your front end? Wont that affect your performance? I guess you could lower your body up front to block air from rushing under, and create a pseudo-airdam.

My drag Bit has the lowered spring mod, because I always thought a lowered front end was the way to go. But this does nothing for my steering, and when my car drifts on a drag run, trying to correct the steering by tapping left or right will send it WAY OFF the straightaway line.

Hmmm... how to get the best of both worlds?



PS the wheelie bar is the best way to go if dragging with a 2.4v mod. Try to get it as low to the ground as possible, because popping off the start line with a 2.4v & a 3.8 Pink Slip Rotor will send the car wheelieing, and when the front end eventually touches again, you may not be aligned to the track anymore and its hard to correct steering from that point on. I am racing on a 12 inch wide lane (Official BitDra-G guidelines).
