city racing leagues

i was interested in finding out if anyone ws aware of any city racing groups, or at least a way to find out who else around wants to race. since RS keeps getting sold out there must be an abundance of people with zips around...so lets race! Ill start: i live in Portland, OR and hav one other buddy i race and work on zips with. So there's 2 of us, where are the rest of youse! there are some 12 or so radioshacks in the greater portland area and they all sell out. so anyone else?

Yeah that would be great! I am just across the river in Vancouver, WA. I have been into these little things since October. I am a bit (sorry for the bad pun) old for this "sport" at 31, but I believe you are never to old to have serious FUN

Eventhough I am an Electrical Engineer I never had a steady enough hand for soldering so I only have stock zips. If yours are heavily modded I may not prove to be much competition. Send me an e-mail.

there's no way you are too old. im 29 and my buddy is a young 40! remember we were teh ones pushing hotwheels around as a kid. now that its not as easy to bend down to push them on the floor we can stannd up(or kick back if you prefer) and play with out cars :D
do you know anyone else around here?

Cool, its great to see others my age can get into this stuff. I am not alone after all.

I think I did see someone else in this forum say they were in Vancouver. I believe his/her userid was "truckian".

Peter Pan syndrome can live on in all of us friend!!!
for those that Feel too old for things, well then looks like the reindeer games are over for them. :(

do you have a track? i havent gottne into that yet, just still aquiring info on the net(3 or so different web sites have some i've found so far) my bro has 4 sets of the track setup and puts it up from time to time on the kitchen floor.

you also stated you zip was purely stock. any upgrade packages at all? my 1st reccomendation is to go out and get a cheap ($10) bubble clone and stick the motor in the zip...much better! most of my mods have been minor, just for looks. and rabbit ears for the Tx antennae. other than my 1 drag racer which i had someone else swap the PCB and put in 2 batteries (thanks bunta), but otherwise we've been noticing the various setups between motors, gears, suspension nad track (ie tight turning track is lower motor , and looser suspension, but it all changes around variably)

i wanna start one here in ny....maybe actually make it feel like streetracing w/ some money involved..hmmmm:) an no one has to kno that this gambling goin on;)

naturecured 02-07-2003 07:21 PM

instead of racing for pinks we could race for the cards! get enough money involved and we could fly back and forth just for teh races. get a circuit going here :D

CoMeDiAn 02-07-2003 07:22 PM

Yeah, I suffer badly from the Peter Pan syndrome. I had a track at my girlfriend's place (in the attic area) but it just picked up way too much dust and cat hair (from two cute cats). I spent more time cleaning than racing.

I have grandios plans to build my own track complete with timing system, landscaping, everything! In the process of moving to a new house now though and will start construction when I get settled. I detailed a description of my plans in some other thread on this forum. If your interested I think a search of my user name will probably find it.

I have only stock zips, but I do have every upgrade RS has put out and I have purchased several motors from www.vibratormotor.com. They work well, but not really any better than standard RS motors. I have anywhere from 10-30 of each variety (1.0, 1.4, 1.6, 2.2, 2.4, 2.6, 2.8, 3.1, 3.4). I was going to get some of the 2.6 and 2.8 DKS motors but they are now discontinued:(

My current best car can travel 16.5 feet (scale 1/5 mi.) in 4 seconds flat. This is with the original Zip Zaps PCB and my best Turbo 2.2 motor. This one particular red motor was hands down better than all of the other 30 red and 30 yellow motors I have so I placed it in my best car and it worked pretty well.

I have purchased the new Civic and Mustangs but haven't opened them up yet as I am in the process of moving. If the PCB is improved in them then I will be happier yet.

we have wood floors and 2 dogs so the hours of cleaning with a pin and tweezers (any better ideas...thats the best i got) make me long for my own track which im currently draming of

my new gold civic is just fantastic. kinda shocking! i can now put a diecast bodyu on it and it'll still cruise!
