Well, I finally got my zipzap looking the way I wanted it. I never liked the original wheels or bodies as they didn't look 'right.' I had a few HO scale slot cars lying around and decided to try and retrofit some wheels and a body to my zip zap, while still being able to use the stock bodies. I had to trim the chassis in places and gut all of the stuff out of the inside of the HO body, shorten the hood to get the wheelbase right and had fun getting the front wheels to look right (now the back wheels look too big). But, it's a lot better than stock and it's pretty cool looking if I do say so myself. Check it out:

I should also add that it still goes as fast and turns as well as stock, but since the rear tires are really old, they've kind of hardened a bit so it'll do donuts and slide the rear around a bit. I'm trying to find some wheels that don't stick out so far, but I'm not having any luck yet. That and I'll probably drill a hole for the antenna instead of having it come out the window.

It's from an old Dukes of Hazzard slot car set I got back when I was a little kid and the show was still on the air. I used to have another one but I have no idea what happened to it. I don't even know who made it, you could try ebay as there are usually a ton of slot cars on there, and usually some bodies by themselves.

That slot car & body was made by Ideal back in the early to middle 1980's.

While not particularly rare or hard to find, they are pretty desirable to Dukes or Mopar slot car collectors (I'm still trying to find a decent one for my slot car collection!).

There are 4 or 5 of the dukes cars on ebay right now, all new in boxes and they aren't going for an exhorbitant amount of money so I didn't have a problem cutting it up considering it was anything buy new in the box.

Bodies made for Tyco 440 cars (the shorter wheelbase ones) should work with the least amount of modification, the one I used required shortening to get the wheels to line up but the Tyco ones should be close and only need the front wheel wells opened up a bit.

I changed the rims to match a little better on it, I think I'm going to try to fit a Lamborghini Countach body to it next, I'll post pics if it works out.
