I don't think there is much difference that you will notice.

pakiplaya 12-11-2002 04:17 PM

mm...
anyother opinions?
ranges be writin pleasz?

mustang_steve 12-11-2002 04:34 PM

The range depends on where its being used. kitchens tend to be very bad for bits (prolly has to be the two refrigertors here).

to increase range you can route the antenna on the car from the back of the board instead of the front (untie that knot as well). Even better is putting a 24gauge solid core antenna (cat5).

Now for the more exotic, remove the cripple cap on the car's PCB (be sure that's it before you clip it, don't wanna damage something you need), and remove the cripple cap i n the controller. just doing the controller and hte car cripple caps, i was getting 40ft+ in my apt (RF hell, cordless phones...yeah right...).

Also note that doing these mods can bug ya at races. I personally refuse to take un-capped controllers to events due to the sheer annoyance they can cause to others. Imagine trying to test a car, and sending some other guys car 50ft away right off the table :( That's not cool at all. The car mod is a tamer mod but gives you an edge on the track since you have less chance of hitting a dead spot.

anyways 20ft is about ideal, good enough to be a slacker and run it from a chair, and not so far that the kid 50ft from you at the races will be able to shoot your off the table (well, unless he did hte controller mod...)

Guys, don't take this wrong, I have no intent to flame, this is my attempt at a constructive criticism.

Honestly I feel he just needs to pay up and get a real bit (if he does not have one already), and carefully read and research. All hobbies require knowledge of the equipment at hand. After that he needs to set his goals on how far he wants to take this hobby. Does he want to just have a nice fun car he can swap things into and not fret too hard if it breaks, or go all out and spend weekends on weekends making one car as perfect as possible (weight shaving, stereing upgrades, etc).

Paki, if your reading this, here's a few links for ya to get up to speed on bits and r/c in general.

www.questformadness.com <- for mod information
www.tinyrc.com <- self explanitory
http://www.howstuffworks.com/rc-toy.htm <- how r/c cars work
www.driftkingshop.com <- place for aftermarket parts

Also don't think anyhtings out of range of Yahoo's little spider arms...it's amazing what things you can find, and wished you never found on yahoo.

I know, I'ts hard to be patient with life, but a hobby is your chance to just take your time and revel in what efforts you have done, instead of just rushing to the next step.

Trust me, don't sweat the details. If you cant find a crip cap, you may have the wrong type of car or it may not have a crip cap. If your gears whine, it may be normal...definition of noisy varies from person to person.....what is fast varies too....

Just learn, and apply what you can....what you don't have a hold on yet will come in time.
