I don't know what I screwed up.

Hi!
I'm new at all of this, so let me introduce myself.

I'm shaun and so far I have a microsizer rx7 (27mhz) custom translucent orange, 2.2, blue gears, cat5 mod on the controller and car, crip cap removed from car pcb, radio shack antenna upgrade. I also have a fairlady z on the way (should have it by the weekend). I just did the cat5 and antenna upgrades yesterday and the car still stutters alot. I have a little more range, but I get real bad stutters at different times. Could this be interference from kitchen appliances. I run it in the kitchen because of the floor. The new antenna has a crappy range when fully extended and the factory one works a little better with the cat5 upgrade. I can't tell if the telescopic antenna is working or not. HELP if you can.

Thanks,
Shaun

Simple way to find out...Run the car in a different room and see what your range is there.

I really don't have another room with hard floors yet (getting hardwood floors installed in two rooms). Thats my dilemma.

Is anyone gonna help or are you all just going to ignore the new guy?

It sounds like you got a loose connection. Check all your solder points, and take your car outside to test the range on it. You don't need to be able to run it. You just need 2 people, one to tell you it's working. Good luck.

I believe Namuna tried to help you. And he is right take it somewhere else and test. My answer is "yes" possibly they are interfering with the car.

But first answer all these:

Did you try a new motor?
Are the batteries in the Controller BRAND NEW?
what is so "custom" about this translucent orange controller?
Is the cat5 wire solder a really good solder?

I redid the solder points twice because I thought the samething. I even redid the new antenna wire by taking it off and wrapping it through the hole 4 or 5 times and then soldered it thinking I wasn't getting a constant connection, but I don't know. I did the soldering the first time and then I undid it all and did the cat5 upgrade, but to no avail.

New motor - yes
new batteries - yes
translucent orange rx7 CAR
Seems like a good solder on the cat5 wires even though I am not the best solderer in the world.

Too much solder will affect the performance. You need clean solder points.

Thats one reason I redid the initial solder job, I tried to use less solder than before which I think I achieved. I don't know about "clean", what do you mean by that?

When I run in my kitchen, there is definitely interference from something, possibly the fridge. There are multiple dead spots where the car will stutter or get stuck completely until I move the controller around some. As was mentioned, you can test in a diff room or outside if a friend will hold the car and walk away while you use the controller to test the range.

aero 11-25-2002 01:28 PM

I will def. test outside, but I kinda would like my car to work inside, so if it works outside I'm gonna have to find a new place to run inside.....
thanks guys.........
additional comments welcome!!

if you have no hard wood other then kithen take it to a freinds house who does have hardwood or lanolium

My girl and all my friends have hard floors only in the kitchen...I'm in a tough spot to test.
thanx

UPDATE!!!

My brother did a cat5 mod on his 27mhz microsizer and got an additional 7+ ft in the same kitchen I am having problems with. He's going to resolder my handy work since I suck at soldering, but I'll tell ya he has great range and no stutter in the kitchen......
