Storage?

what are people using to store and transport their dnano's? personally i would like to find a small aluminum case about the size of a book to carry my cars and parts. no luck so far.

i did find some great little plastic storage boxes from staples that are dirt cheap and work great!

right now i've got my cars in my mini-z travel tool box which is not ideal due to size and weight. i want to keep my dnano's very portable.

anyone ever see the aluminum case kyosho has on their dnano shop? i'd like to get the specs and price on that.

Go to Lowes and get the Taskforce toolbox. For the money you can't beat it.All aluminum and larger than the Kyosho and probably half the cost.

Hey everybody. New to this forum and new to Dnano. My first car and track are due tomorrow.

In regards to storage, go to Lowes or Home Depot. They have a metal tool box the size of a small briefcase for $24.99. There is perforated foam that can be pulled to fit your controller, multiple cars, charger, etc. In the upper door is a removable flap that has tool slots or you can store items behind it.

I have one for my Micro-T and Micro-Crawler. Works great. Be careful though to not buy one that has been opened. The foam has a tendency to disappear in the store (learned the hard way).

Hope this helps...

my wife picked up the case from lowes for me tonight.

a tad larger than i was looking for.

the inner dividers are worthless.

the foam block is easy enough to use and i wish the precut nature extended vertically through the foam as it does horizontally.

the tool panel in the lid is junk. it's held in place with a clip and two flanges. i was hoping it was a folding or expanding pocket that i could use for manuals, etc.

i took some time today to print out a custom dnano logo to place on the exterior which i worked a bit on tonight. i'll post pictures and i hope it turns out well.

For $25, it's the best I've found. There are things you can do easily I'm sure to make it how you want :)

If you want just a case for your car, check this Vanguard Swing 8 case.

http://www.amazon.com/Vanguard-Swing...4656558&sr=8-5

It's 6 3/4" W x 4 1/4" H x 2" D . You mentioned earlier you want something the size of a book. The lower portion has the pluck foam. The upper part of the case as some sleeves to hold head phones and such.

I'm going to order one and see if it will work or not. I've seen them anywhere from $8-$20 on various websites.

i'm actually ok with the overall size of 18"x13", it could have been 4" in depth vs. 6" though. the top lid space is wasted space unless you carried your transmitter in the case which i don't as i have a ex-10 helios. 4" would have been more briefcase like vs. bordering on luggage size. it holds all 3 of my cars, little storage boxes, battery charger, etc.

i'll keep an eye out for some translucent green paint maybe to make the whole thing dnano theme colored. certainly wouldn't loose it either. the painted on logo turned out great. i'm hoping it doesn't chip off easily, but only time will tell.

thank you very much for the suggestion, it was a worthwhile purchase.

Hey Arch,
I use a fishing tackle box to store my dNano that I just got. It is small but yet it holds a lot. I got it from Walmart for $15.00 but here is a link so you can see what I am talking about.

i'll have to keep that in mind :) i'll use this aluminum case for awhile and see how i like it. at $25, i'm not opposed to changing my mind later.

can you post pictures of how you have stuff arranged?

Hey Arch,
I will be more than happy to snap some picks and send them along to you. I just recently got a dNano :) and I am waiting for the rest of the parts to come in which should be any day. As soon as I have everything together in the box, I will send the photos off to you. I really like the tackle box idea. I use the Plano 727 (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4232222) for my Mini-Z's and it works great so I figured I might as well try and find a smaller one for the dNano :).

Hey, if you want to explore some more sleek and slim options, you can actually buy poker chip cases without the chips. You'll have to get your own foam though.

Also the Vanguard company makes a 19" and 24" aluminum case, thinner profile for notebooks and stufff. Not sure what is on the inside. I did order the 8" case. Will take pics if it works when I get it :)

nitrojunkie 01-29-2010 05:00 AM

Hey Arch would you be willing to hook someone up with one of those slick paint masks? The logo looks good.

arch2b 01-29-2010 01:10 PM

it was a logo i scanned from the autoscale box printed to fit page on an avery letter size label which i then covered with clear packing tape to prevent paint bleed. just peeled and stuck to the case and trimed out the areas with an xacto knife, covered the rest with a trash bag and painted. :) the cutting to the longest and everything was done in about 1.5 hours.

i'll attach the logo scan i have when i get home.

Pelican cases are the bomb, and practically bombproof. Definitely waterproof. I would get one with a handle:

http://www.all-pelican-cases-4-less....can_1150p.html

The 1170 looks like a good size, if it fits the KT18 too..can anyone confirm what size is needed for the KT18 and 2-3 cars w/ charger?
