Tamtech are alive!
 

They are 15 years old but put the Tampack battery in charge and its still one of the fastest small RC i ever raced. I hope Tamiya will consider small scale again, they have the resources to design a top competitor for the mini-z and others...

looks cool... how does the chassis look like? got a pic?

The only hopup i can recall are ball bearings, this one has them.
I will post another pic so you can compare with a mini-z.

On left: Tamtech short wheelbase 105 mm.
On right: long wheelbase 116 mm.

Well pretty short wedge, even worst now with aged batteries something around 5 mn if you are full throttle most of the time. But with 2 batteries and a quick charger you can get around this.
I found the Testarossa like new on Ebay one year ago and i try to keep it in condition.

Nice man! You can get another one at Dinba.. with an F50 body ready to run, at least that is what it says.

Writing about the Tamtechs just gave me the idea to measure the timings as compared to the mini-z. My living room track is small, it is a L shape and a complete round measures 30ft.
For 10 rounds my 2 mini-z (GT3 and Modena) made it in 53 seconds.
The Tamtech is under 46s and still improving!!! thats more than 2/3 second a round :D

Yeah, these cars fly. I love racing them on hard wood floors, all you do is spin the tires, but its fun.

Forgot to ask a question, what kind of tires to you have on the long wheelbase?

These come with the white firebird shell you can see on the first pic. Its a a 1/24 revell kit but i dont race with them except for power slide practicing ;) Stock foams have much more grip!

I tired using M-Z F1 tires for it and it seemed to work fine although I had to put some electrical tape on the rims to make the car have a higher clearance for the ball diff. None the less I think I will keep buying the F1 tires unlees you have any better sugestions.

Well i had the chance to find NIB Tamtech foams on auction so i got some spares for a while. But they are no longer on market so the F1 mini-z is a good alternative i think.
I never had clearance problems, with new stock foams the diff is only 2mm off the ground, i race on industrial carpet though.
Are the mini-z tires that thin? What is the thickness? Stock tamtech foams are 4 mm rear and only 3 in front.

They are thin, real thin. I would get out a ruler and check it out but I am too lazy. I also have awesome clearance with the foams, but those were a ton thicker.
