gpm and lugnuts
 

hey i was wondering what the whole point with metal lugnuts are and the gpm parts. i know that the extra aluminum adds weight and gives you better turning but HOW GOOD DO YOU NEED YOUR TURNING TO BE. youre sacrificing alot of speed just for turning and the lugnuts arent so bad mine have never broke but i still bought a set of 4 lugnuts but i lost one and im going back to the nylon ones. is there a way to make the nylons ones stronger. im not too concerned with friction i just dont want it breaking on me

The point of the metal lugnuts is they're stronger than the standard plastic lugs. After I upgraded my EVo8 with 6cells and 2x3 FETs stack, I barely ran that thing 50 feet and it blew a lugnut and tossed the rear-right wheel about a foot away. It's quite disconcerting to see a whole wheel fly off your car!

The point of the Aluminum are:
- much stronger than plastic. If you do some power upgrades, like the 6cell and/or FETs, you run a good chance of stripping and breaking plastic parts under the load of the extra power. Aluminum has no problem taking on the load
- BLING factor! Nice shiny metal looks better cheapy looking plastic

I don't know who told you it makes for better turning, they're equivalent to stock.

lol but im using my xmod for drifting not for speed so would metal lugnuts be THAT neccesary for drifting

The metal lugs are nice because they have locking threads and because they won't break. Your nylon lugs will break eventually. It's just a matter of time.

As for alloy chassis and suspension bits, they're stronger and offer much more precision. Where your plastic bits may not always line up just right, the alloy will. The weight difference is not significant.

I threw some metal lugnuts onto my car, and they look REALLY nice when combined with the blue anodized GPM outdrives.

I found a drawer at work that has tons of small washers and nuts. I grabbed a bunch of 2mm nuts... they're not lock nuts, but with a small washer, they hold better on the tires.

I used to but a dab of super glue on the nylon nuts to keep them on. That seemed to help a bit on mine.

I think i'll steel some more from work :) $2 maybe... let me know what you can get them for.

hehe, i personally think its a waste of time if you go out finding aluminum 2 mm lugnuts..EVEN if i have them:P, ive spent 4 weeks looking for them. just take a look at my thread in the XMODS part its called "nylon lugnuts falling out?" it really helps..and its pretty strong enough for an xmod!
