ZZ MT multi-cell options

Since the holidays we have seen a few ZZ MTs returned to the RS where i work, so I have a growing parts collection, including batteries.

(This is just ZZ MTs mind you, I already have a ton of original ZZ/MS/Bit/Clone parts from back in the day.)

My "MH" crawler goes through even a double-charge pretty quickly as it's geared down and has an upgraded steering motor.

I really want to crawl some rocks with this thing, or at least attempt it, so I want it to run longer...I think.

My thought was to simply add a second complete battery pack, but connect them in parallel for twice the running time.

It also keeps things simple by allowing a non-modified charger to be used. (okay four charges, but still... ;) )

Parallel battery packs should probably work.

However, it is worth noting that, atleast a while back on the Bit and ZZ, many people found out parallel batteries didn't work in the cars. I can't remember why though.

Good luck, let us know how it works

I paralleled two battery packs on my XL-1 crawler with no problems.
Run time is doubled as is charging time, pretty much as expected.

Running batteries in parallel really shouldn't be a problem unless the batteries in question are seriously dissimilar.

The pack I used was pulled from a donor MT, so it's a duplicate of the internal one, and I made sure both were discharged so that charging would be as equal as possible.

(After a few cycles they are matched anyway, but this keeps one pack from being stressed.)

This thread got me thinking...

Keep an eye out for my next modded MT, this time going for speed!

This sounds great, can't wait to see it Michael.

I'm a newb here and I'm currently modding an MT. At this time I'm working on the body itself... using the xacto knife and putty to turn the Chebby into a Toyota (best thing that ever happened to a Chevy :D ). After that begin the frame/drivetrain mods. I'm trying to make a model of my truck.

I'm holding off pictures until I'm done... though I've thought of posting pictures as I go.

Anyway, can't wait to see more of your mod work.
