way better stearing
 

so i got my ZZMT the other day:D . i love this little thing, and i'v done lots of mods to it too, like the suspention mod, softer springs, 6T pinnion gear, etc.

and now to the newest and best mod i've done yet, i'm sure many people have done this mod a long time ago but it works so good. i took the old black stearing motor out and put a red stock zip zap motor in. the motor is about 1/8"-1/4" taller so i had to do some cutting to my pcb cover but i got it to work. the stearing power is so much better, it's made a huge difference in my crawling abilites and it handels great.

i would reccomend doing this mod for all ZZMT. and it's really easy, just solder a few wires and your done. feel free to ask questions.

Would a purple motor work? Also, can I use the old round end motors, or do i need the new square end ones?

so this is how to improve steering. yay!!! now to find those old motors...

I used a yellow square end motor. It had about twice the power of a green (at least the green one I tried). Of my 4 MTs it now has the most powerful steering. Square or round doesn't matter. Just get the + - wired correctly. Great mod!!!

Try Athearn's motor brush springs. They should be available at a hobby shop which sells HO model railroad equipment.

I put a red motor in mine and it really sucks the batteries and near the time when I run out when I try to turn it wont go forward so I think im goiung to put a blue motor in...just some know how for anyone who wants to do this. The stock motor is a short cann motor and this is for good torque but low rpms, the regular zz mmotors have a long can which gives more rpms and less torque but sucks batteries alot faster.

Do you think motor works motors would be a direct swap in? They don't use much power at all either.

BTW We definitely need better batteries for these things, more oomph would be nice, there's just no punch and the steering and acceleration suffer big time.

I have a couple of crappy "dome" Microsizer clones with wired motors too.

I like the idea of the stock ZZ motor being used for steering though.

? then you need someone else to do it. But its not hard to solder just touchy the solder iron to what you want to solder and then melt some solder onto it. You are actually suppose to heat up the object you are soldering so that the solder melts onto but that is more difficult and will not workon zipzaps because you will damage the motor.

Then try to learn, it's not that hard and it really comes in handy.

I just finished replacing my stock steering motor with a wired motor from a Microsizer dome-clone.

I performed the mod on my Monster Herbie crawler and really like the results!

I don't know what the rating is on the dome clone cars, but it's definitely more positive steering with the new motor.

I performed this mod with a regular green motor. The results weren't exactly incredible, so I think I'll use a more powerful motor. The problem is that it sucks my battery life way down, and the truck slows down when it turns. Is there a way to put a bigger battery in?

I tend to double-charge.
