are 3rd gen really that good?
Hey ppl im new here
ive had zz and zzse's my current se is a red chevvelle 2nd gen the speed sucks and is worse in reverse the steering is okay now that i modded it should i get a shelby gt500? is it worth my 25 bucks or will it suck after a few days like my other car? |
Im new to this hobby as well. A coworker got the Herbie car which is not the SE. I was impressed with the way it moves so I went out and bought the Starsky & Hutch Grand Torino Kit which is an SE model. Was I dissapointed. Even with the Nitro motor in it, the Herbie was quicker than mine. Reverse was almost nonexistent. I think this is just a bad design or something. Can anyone give any input on this?

hey i got the gt500
it is awesome zipinzapin ur car is not a 3rd gen car the ford gt, shelby gt500, viper, and somethin else are all 3rd gen cars my bros have the gt and viper, and all those cars rock. -no loss in speed when in reverse -good steering -better motors buy one of the 3rd gens u will not be dissapointed ps- i did the steering mod on my car and now it handles like a dream |
I returned the Starsky & Hutch GT Kit and bought a 66 Sting Ray which is a 3rd gen ZZ. It really moves and is a hell of a lot better than the one I returned. However I also picked up an older Mitsu EVO from Radio Shack for only $10 and with the proper mods it smokes my 66 Vette. IMO The older ones seem to handle much better.

Yes, the 3rd generation SEs are indeed definately improved.
They upped the duty cycle, or in other words, the how fast the signal to the engine pulses to control speed. Previous models were only on 30% of the time. The current models, the '65 'Stang and '66 Vettte, have a duty cycle that is on 55% of the time. Giveing you aproximately 1.5v from the 2.4v battery, putting it about on track with the OG Zip Zap chassis. You can read more about this duty cycle stuff, and see a comparison vid here in my write up on Codesuidae's DC Mod. http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/ph...pic.php?t=6427 |
