Unbelievable Range!

I've recently moved out into the woods of Crystal River, and happily found a place to run my Zaps around -:) While my so-called "yard" LOL ( http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/weeds/Weed..._Homestead.htm ) is an ideal place to run the MTs, it doesn't work too well for the regular Zaps (needless to say).

Today my nephew and I went to a small county park that's about 5 miles from me. The park has a gazebo type of thing thats about 50 foot square (and is covered) with nice smooth concrete, as well as a newly paved asphalt basketball court. The basketball court's surface is as smooth as silk, and measures about 100 foot by 50 foot.

Long story short, my nephew and I were getting a range of the full length of the court today... *100 foot*... original Zaps, SE Zaps, as well as the MTs, both frequencies! Amazing!

In Miami we used to race out in my driveway ( http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/weeds/driveway1.jpg / http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/weeds/driveway2.jpg / http://www.cmoo.com/~snor/weeds/our_house.htm ), and had pretty good range there (about 30-50 feet or so), but no where NEAR what we were experiencing at the court here in Crystal River! Dunno what could cause the difference 'tho, maybe all of the fresh clean country air <LOL>? -:)

You have a lot less electromagnetic interference out there.

Funny what not having a cluttered signal will do for a recciever that's really bad at selectivity

Hehe ya know, over in the ZipZaps Yahoo Group one of our members (a lady) posted basically the same thing. She said that maybe my joke about the "clean country air" may have more merit than I was giving it <G>, and then said basically the same thing as you -:)

BTW, as an electronicly semi-knowledgable guy, I should have realized/thought of that on my own <LOL>! Anyhow, I'm thinking that's what it is as well, a lot less radio waves and other such RF interference out here (heck, I can only receive about *TWO* TV stations most of the time out here <aarrgghh>) resulting in extremely good Zaps' range -:)

In the warehouse where I used to work, I could get 100+ feet of range, but in my apartment, I was lucky to get 10'.

I'm thinking (like was posted before) that it's simply a matter of RF interference. I drive my ZipZaps Monster Trucks out here in the woods, and attain amazing range with the MTs (about 100 feet or so) -:) My only problem is getting hung up on pine needles/wood chips/brush when the truck is too far away to monitor my driving skills (or lack thereof <LOL>).

I dunno, I've never done any antenna mods. I suppose that one could use the forum search feature...

funny how you registered in 2003 and you've never heard of the zz antennea mod. Yet me being new to this site, has heard but, do not know how to do it

I never said that I've never heard of any antenna mods, but rather that I have never performed any (i.e. "I dunno..." = re: links to mods)

P.S. Although registered here in 2003, been playin' with ZipZaps since December of '02 -:)
