Took the front apart but i cant get it back together,, Please Help!

ok, so i took the front apart because i wanted more travel with the front shocks.. i grinded down the bump stops and doubled the travel but i now cant get it back together. There is a small spring that keeps the steering straight and i just cant figure out how it works.. anyone have some pics or help of how to get it back together???

Thanks

that can be quite hard to do. i opened up my truck to try and take out the drive shaft so it would be rear wheel drive (i wanted a drifter truck, lol). the little steering arm that goes in just behind the steering knuckles has a little rod sticking out the bottom of it. place this rod in between the two sides of the spring and you should be sweet. also make sure the steering motor is aligned in the centre. do this by turning on the truck then turning it off again. hope this was helpful.

ok, here is where i was confused when i was putting it together,, the spring has a round end and then two prongs that stick out from it and cross.. so i stick the pin between them when they are crossed or do i need to seperate them and then put the pin in??? I tried it once with it still crossed and it seemed way too stiff and it wouldnt turn,, maybe i didnt so something right. then i tried seperating the prongs and it works but only one side will straighten up,, so if i hit reverse for example, it turns on its own. let me know if that makes sense

Thanks

Sup I'm a newbie at this whole tiny rc website but i do know alot about these little cars and the big cars. I had the same problem with my MT about ten minutes ago. I used tape to hold the spring open while i put it on the pin. then i put the sterring rodepin into the open prongs. and now it works better then when i got it.:D

Thanks man, thats what i figured,, i did it that way twice and it only worked in one direction and the other direction was limp(wouldnt return to straight from one side) i found it odd that it did it twice on the same side,, maybe ill try again later

Atleast i know for sure now,, Thanks

what your problem seems to be is that the steering motor (or servo, if you will) is out of line. without the spring it will tend to stay to the side it was last steered to. that happened to me as well. you need to put the pin when the spring is uncrossed. my steering alignment is a bit out though, the little alignment thing at the bottom is almost all the way to the right. you see that little cube thing on the top face of your steering arm with the gap in the top? that attaches to your steering servo's output arm (for want of a better term). you have to make sure your steering servo is centred. the way to do this is to turn on your mt then turn it off, with the controller on as well. this will transmit a signal to tell the wheels to go the straight position. if you have tried this already i'm not sure how to help. once again, i hope this has helped.
