New Ford GT and Gran Torino
 

These are my first ZZ cars, so here's a little rundown on what I think of them:

Gran Torino:

I put the 34k motor in this car and drove it around for a while. The speed is ok, but the steering is what makes this car great. The left and right turning is almost perfectly equal, and it's not too tight or too wide. Excellent steering! However, the car does make a bit of noise, and the battery charge only lasts for two or three minutes, so it's not a perfect car. But it's very good nonetheless.

Ford GT:

This thing absolutely flies, and the battery charge can even last for 10-15 minutes. My Gran Torino can't touch the speed that this car is capable of, even though the Torino has a faster motor installed. The GT is also very quiet, too. However, the steering is kinda crap. Right turns are very wide and left turns are very sharp. This was one of two GTs that RS had, and only this one was blue, so if I wanna take it back I'll have to wait until they get more in. But I probably won't take it back.....I think I'll be able to improve the steering.

It's really a shame that the ZZ cars aren't very consistent. I've read on here that the older ones have poor steering and the new ones have good steering, and yet my cars are totally opposite of that. My old one (01A04) has great steering and my new one (08A04) has poor steering. Oh well, nothing's perfect. The GT still rocks, though.

Doesn't your Torino go a lot slower in reverse than forward? I noticed that about mine; after my brother got his Mustang Concept I saw that his reverse is much faster than my car's. That was the only problem with my Torino though (except for having one of the headlights a bit brighter than the other). I can't complain about the speed, and the steering is truly excellent. But it's my first Zip Zap so maybe I can't be taken too seriously :)

Yes, the Torino does go in reverse a lot slower. I actually thought it was supposed to be like that for the sake of realism....until I saw other cars. But it's no problem.

Well, I ended up having to take my blue Ford GT back this morning because it died on me. The chassis would not move or charge at all, so I exchanged it for a white Ford GT. It was great that I took it back, though, because the white GT works flawlessly. The steering and alignment were perfect out of the box. I didn't have to make any adjustments at all. It's also a 08A04 car like the blue GT was. So now I'm completely satisfied.....as long as this one doesn't die on me.

do enough people have the new gts so that we can establish if they are in fact consistantly good? do you think that your first one was just a fluke? with my experience thus far with the older se's is that you have about a 50 50 chance of getting a "good" car. ive made so many returns, please say this is not the case with the gts!!

The GTs are terrific but seem to get jittery over time. Especially with the really high speed motors in. Otherwise without them they seem to stay more consistent if you just leave the stock motor in.

by jittery do you mean just the steering making noise or accually effecting how the car operates? i can live with a little steering noise :p . also with all these speed comparisons, theyre faster even with the stock motor :eek: ??

Yes, they really blaze. There's a video in one of these threads that shows the viper chassis driving around. It's what made me want to buy one of the new Viper/GT cars.

i dont know why i forgot to ask this first but are they as quick as the original zz's? (non se)

i just got the torino and the blue gt
the torino jitters like nuts, so i put it away
but what really bothers me is the blue gt. its much likes urs. when turning right, its far too wide. i need to have a ton of room or else i hit stuff. braking while turning kinda helps. but its just tooooo wide. left is really tight. it is much faster than any of my other ZZ se's. very pleased with the speed.

i tried adjusting the steering and using different tires. no luck with the wide steering. unfortunatly i cannot return them since i bought them in Maine and i live in Canada.

That stinks.

By jittery I mean the steering noise and wiggling eventually come back. Not nearly as bad but it is still there. It doesn't really affect driving, but just being there annoys me.:(

Keep working with different combinations on the alignment and steering trim. I know you said you tried to adjust the steering (I am assuming you mean the alignment screw), but make sure you adjust the trim too. If it is really that bad out of the box, it probably has problems. But, since you can't take it back, you might as well make the best of it. Try adjusting the steering trim first so that the dial is in the middle....then adjust the alignment accordingly to make the car go straight. If that doesn't work, adjust the steering trim all the way to one side and adjust the alignment to make it go straight. Keep adjusting the steering trim back to center little by little, making corresponding adjustments to the alignment until you get the best combo that works for you. You may have to give up a step or two of steering to one side to get it to perform better.

Other things to check for is a warped chassis (Do both front wheels stay on the ground when you turn?) and stuff stuck in the wheels (Do the front wheels spin freely?).

I'm actually surprised to hear you are having these issues. I have only had these problems with my first generation SE's.

i had to return a GT40 becuase of a twisted chassis. you can't fix the steering when that happens. i called "the shack" and they said it was a common manufacturing problem and to exchange it. it's only happened to me twice out of 6 cars but, i check every one i get now.
