left cup joints

i was racing my skyline this weekend and i broke yet another of my left cup joints (that was the fourth on i broke) does anyone know how to streghtin this part or how to make it. i know they sell aluminum ones but there kinda expensive and i don't want to order off the internet. oh ya i have heard of putting heatshrink over the cup but i don't get how it would fit in the bearing with the heatshrink over it.
thanx

the heatshrink only goes over the cup part so the joints dont get pulled apart. not the whole thing. taping it works also. just make sure you dont put too much or itll bind against the car. but ehh.. driving hard, i snapped a whole cup off one with this mod... so itll prolong c cup life but its not totally effective. ive broken about 3 cups already hah. theyre starting to piss me off!

I have a chassis for sale that includes an alloy cup joint...it's in the trading forum.

oh so the heatshrink only goes on the inside of the cup not the outside oh ya and another question, can you use the heatshrink that came on the axles were the rims go?

no! >___< i shoulda made my response more clearer. it goes around the cup. like a sleeve. so the cup doesnt get ripped apart. (kinda works like how you use a rubber band to keep a rolled up poster nice and rolled.) they dont call it shrink"wrap" for nothing. and no, the wrap that comes with xmods doesnt work. if you have masking tape you can cut it up into a thin strip and wrap it around once or twice. not too much or too wide or it will bind!

on the subject of c cups:
lsd's, locked differentials, high torqued motors, drifting, and hardcore stuff like that will put more stress on them.

i just broke the right rear cup joint on my red supra. the car is stock except locked diff. and atomicmods.com 180 motor.

newbitowner 08-10-2004 02:38 PM

I have 3 spares. The alloy parts cost too much.

My 180 motor broke before the 2nd right cup!

you mean the cup you broke was alloy?!

well it doesnt look like it. haha maybe im just reading your post wrong. that would be crazy if someone did snap an alloy cup. i think something else would give first though..:p

no, i'm just saying...my 180 motor broke before anymore cups broke.

Think about it this way: at this point, you've spent about as much on plastic cups as you could have on just 1 aluminum one. Get the aluminum cups, and it'll save you money in the long run.

where can i buy a right cup by itself?

i have a left alloy cup id trade.
