It's totally ready to run minus batteries for the Tx (8xAA), it even includes a battery charger.

Has advantage over new in box DRR in that it is already separate electronics. This means you can upgrade the ESC w/o having to buy a new Receiver as well (as you would if you wanted to upgrade the out of the box DRR).
