What should I buy for my track? carpet? foam?
I have a 20'X10' PVC track already assembled. It cost me about $20 for everything.
I don't want to race on concrete, so what is the cheapest and best material to buy? Home Depot's cheapest carpet would run my about $80 for a 12'X20'. (They sell it already 12' wide.) |
i would think a hard foam, or a low pile carpeting would work well. i remember that some place had interlocking foam pads with one textured side and another flat side. they're supposed to be put where people stand alot, you might try that, or Sears has thin foam or rubber that is used for lining tool box trays. the big tool boxes not the fishing tackle sized ones.

those interlocking pads are very expensive. it would cost more than $200 to cover my 20'X10' track.
hopefully my dad gets the used carpet from his work soon. |
i was lookin at buyin carpet for my room the other day and saw some carpet padding i dont remeber the size but it was like $20 bux for a HUGE roll of it only drawback is its pink but i guess its not that big of a deal

We use carpet for our track. I will try and post a picture later. We bought it from home depot. It is a low pile type with a real tight loop pile, so you don't get any fibers stuck in your wheels and diff. Works great for our races and is just as good as the ozite stuff, at half the cost. We use pvc for the track walls.

First off, pink is LAME - especially pink skateboard decks.
My track is just my old dining room carpet upside-down. Its like a woven plastic mesh and is the grippiest thing ever. If you've got an old roll of carpet in your basement, seriously, flip it and try it out     |
i thought of that^ but i dont have any carpet laying around.
