thermal joint compound on engine

I'm testing thermal joint compound on my zz's and bit's motor/heatsink. I haven't had any problem's or notable benefits so I got to thinking is the heat sink functional or is it just to hold the motor in place?

I think its just to hold the motor in place. These motors arent moving fast enough or working hard enough to generate any real heat.

And its not really making too much contact with the motor. If it was a AMD CPU it would have gone poof already.
