Rant: People who can't type

I'm not sure about the other forums, but at least on the XMods fourm, there are a ton of kids who can't type to save their lives. These are my biggest complaints:

-People who don't capitalize any letters
-Use CAPS lock, all the time!
-Can't spell even the simplest words
-Use abbreviations like 'any1'
-Obviously don't reread their posts, because I've seen many that make absolutely no sense

If you agree, tell me, I want to see if anyone cares about this...or if I'm the only one.

I do; typing is easily correctable, why not spend a few seconds just correcting it. I try to be organized in my posts so it is easier for others to read and understand. Usage of abbreviated words are perfectly fine but I prefer to stay away from it.

Look at your post while typing to spot any spelling/grammar errors- or better yet, cut and paste into a word processor to have it checked, fixed and finally paste it back.

Forum posting has helped me improve my writing a lot. It probably can for you.

I usually type mistakes because I have just a few minutes before school or things like that.

Everyone makes mistakes, especially when they're in a hurry. As long as you make sense then it should be alright.

God, it's like no one ever taught these kids how to use a "Shift" key.

d00kie 02-27-2004 11:05 PM

Actually, I have never learnt how to use the shift key for changing the case until about 2 years so. Counter-Strike taught me that  since the Caps Lock doesn't affect the words you type during chat.

Azimov and some other people, in another thread (called, "Why the Feud?"), talked about checking your posts before your submit them. Forums are NOT the real world, you get AMPLE time to THINK about what you are saying before you post it. If you're too lazy to read the text in the box, try hitting "Preview Reply" and READ the whole post you are about to submit, don't just skim through it. I've made a mistake of lashing at other people and then I regretted it, as demonstrated here, and I admit now that that wasn't too wise.

I'm still learning to think before I act. In real life, in real conversations, you can't take 10 minutes to come up with a well thought out reply, rather you have somewhere around 5 seconds, and I know it's not too hot to have less time than you need when doing or saying things. But keep in mind that there are some people who are in a hurry, and that should NOT be your situation when posting. You should have a fair amount of time to CHOOSE and THINK about what you're going to post. Like I said, I'm still learning to do this myself, forutnately I'm being aided by some people to help with this.

Overall, don't post when you don't have time. Make sure you have a good 5 minutes to THINK about what you are going to post, and pretend your endeared ones are watching you. :)

Well said- sometimes I even wish I had more time to think up replies during conversations, especially when later you know you said the wrong thing.

However, I rarely read my entire post, I just breeze through it. Guess I just feel positive about my typing abilities.

Lets just try to make the forums not look like a giant chatroom log :D - it isn't at the moment so thats a good thing.

I agree with you 100% I hate typos in anything especially since you can read what you are going to say!

RC 2NR 02-28-2004 08:39 AM

Too bad 98% of the people who post in the XMods fourm won't ever read this :( . I wonder if some moderator (BC or Neuro) would post this (or a post of this sort) in the XMods fourm and make it a sticky? (HINT!, HINT!.... :p )

I guess people just never learn how to use the |NEW POSTS| link on the forum homepage. It's my favorite feature that can be found in almost all the current message boards.

Just add it to your favorites :D

But thats only helpful if you post in more than one fourm.
