DIY $75 Large 18x9 Foam Oval Track
Foam Tiles: Cost Co which is like Sams Wholesale, has a pack of Six with edges for $10.99 http://www.costco.com/ Use the edges and glue them vertical and cover with VINYL J MOLD(like drywall corner mold from Home Depot or Lowes). VINYL J MOLD $1.19 for like 12 feet It slips right over the extra foam edges you get with the tile packs http://www.tamlyn.com/pvc/jmold.html Or Do not cover the barriers and just make foam rails. But foam rails stop the cars too much, but they do keep them from getting scratched up. This is my first RC track.... may be some redesigns later. |

Billboards

Notice the track barrier bolts in upside down. I am experimenting with adding billboards and track signs, using the bolts.

Finish Line

Finish line is spray painted right on the foam tiles.
Time will tell how well it holds up. |

It is really alot bigger that it looks in the pictures.
18 feet long and 9 feet wide. With 4 foot wide lanes. It was alot of hard work, but me and my son had a blast building it. |
I love it! Very nicely done and great tips.

how many x-mods do you think could race in one race? |
That looks really good... http://www.tinyrc.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

did you custom cut those 2 1' sections? so it would puzzle up with a full tile? or what?

Custom Cut

With a good hobby knife and a hot glue gun you can custom cut tiles any size or shape. I just cut one tile in half and hot glued a border flat side against the cut side of tile. Hot glue on these foam tiles holds like steel. You have to tear the tile at the glue spots to ever get them apart. That is why glueing the borders vetical for barriers works so well. The reason for the custom size tile, was to give the center of the oval a nice gap to race around, as well as make the track as wide as that side of the basement. |
