water dipping?

what is all this I've read about "water dipping" your motors? Ive read about people doing that... but what exactly does it do?

Basically... It just breaks them in faster.

Water dipping cleaned my motors out and lets you use a better lubricant, like Slick 50. With this better lube, the motor accellerates faster and has a higher top speed.

I know i must seem like an idiot... but do I just dip the motor in water?

You put the motor in clean water, and run it until the batteries die. Then you spray electric motor oil in every crevice and orifice on the can you can find and run the motor again until its dried out.

excuse me but, putting a motor in water, while its running, isnt that an eletricity hazard? or does the motor actually run in the water, if so, what would i do with my wires, should they be above the water or in it?

SuPrBuGmAn 02-20-2004 03:31 PM

Dangle the power source above water and have the wires from the power source with the motor connected submerged in the water.

Its not a electrical hazard.

The motor will run in the water, under more load than it would in the air, the extra work to get the brushes moving against the comm breaks the brushes and comms in faster than they would at 1bar. The water will turn grey/milky from the parts breaking in by the time the batteries start running dry. Remove it from the water, dry it as best as you can, fill the can with electric motor oil, throw some new batteries in the power source and start running the motor again.

There is an entire thread on this here http://pub238.ezboard.com/fxmodrcfrm...picID=47.topic
