more speed

can you guys help me, i don't got that much money, so i can't really screw things up too often. but i was wondering if cliping off the black capacitor would ruin my mod. i have read it adds speed, but i don't wanna lose low end.

It seems to add a little bit of power to the motor, I would suggest unsoldering it and if you dont like the performance just put it back on.

yup thats sounds pretty darn good

...

But does it do anything...bad?

It can shorten your range a little.. one of its functions is to remove RF noise from the motor.

I believe it also has a hand in regulating voltage spikes.

When you coast to a stop, your motor will actually generate energy and send it back to the electronics if there isn't a capasitor in place.

I'd keep it, then again, I like my Xmods working reliably so maybe you wouldn't see it my way. :)

The black one is the one that smooths out the voltage, the tan one filters out interference.

As said before, when you coast, the motor generates electricity and sends it back to the car, the black thing is a capacitor that collects that power, stores it momentarily, and then sends it back to the motor when you hit the throttle. So it actually boost your performance when you coast through a corner then hammer it. You can go to Radio Shack and buy an electorlytic capactior that is larger than that one, and it will actually store more energy when your coasting and give a serious boost coming out of corners. Oh yea, and the part at the Shack cost like $.99!!! Check it out!

ps-if you cut it off, that electricity hits your fets, and speed control backwards, not good, save your electronics, don't cut it, upgrade it!

In this case that's not what the capacitor is for. It's to prevent voltage spikes from making the brushes arc on the communicator. Since you obviously don't know what your talking about, arcing = performance decrease.
