Screaming Spinbrush
 

Hello everyone, this is my first post despite having been lurking in the shadows for quite a while at tinyrc.com.

I have recently done these upgrades on my xmod.

added a fifth cell, and put in a spinbrush motor.

now I can see the difference in torque and all.

I am more wondering why it sounds like my kitchen blender?

It is way too loud.

any ideas on how to tone it down? or any stories related would be greatly appreciated...

what motor is it? spinbrush as in the crest spin brush?

check your ground wire... it may be loose.

Either the bushings in the motor are squealing, or the noise is coming from the gears. It isn't clear from your description which problem it is.

its the motor... I ran it out of the body and it still makes the noise. its a hybrid motor, a spinbrush casing with spinbrush magnets, but a stage 2 roadrace innards and pinion.

I checked all the welds...they are fine. and I know nothing is rubbing cause I have three others like it... they all sound like a stage 2 motor in pitch, but this new one literally sounds three times as loud as my others.

I am wondering more if anyone else has a noisy hybrid motor out there?

I know most people have found it to be the pinion, but mine came off clean from the stage 2 motor so its not scratched or bent at all.

It's probably the motor bushings. Either they got misaligned in the reassembly process, or they need a drop of oil. I always put a tiny drop of oil on the bushings of any motor I am working on. I think I gain 500 rpms just from that trick alone.

I have an SB Hybrid too and mine sounds like that. Except I like it. Sounds hardcore if you ask me.

Did you break in your motor? That made mine run much smoother. I put machinist oil on the bushing every time I take her apart for cleaning. I also Have sb mags in the 2.0 but I'm using the 8 tooth pinion. It's loud when the car is running but if I pull the motor out it is very quite. Make sure you have your drive shaft in too, I ran with out mine for a few minutes and it sounded like a wood chipper.

Oiled it up and re soldered all the connections and now it runs alot quieter. it still is louder and quicker then my other spinbrush motors though. but hey why complain about that. now I just need to get rid of all the tire slippage so I can get some acceleration out of all this torque this thing has.

To reduce tire slippage super glue the tires to the rims. You can't see it but the rims spin in the tires.

Oh I know they spin. I held it above the table and floored it . when I pressed it down to the table I saw that the wheels were spinning in there. Could this be made worse by having the AWD upgrade? (which I have) I do have the original diff in the rear though!

the thing is still wicked fast. I would reccomend the 5th cell to anyone, Heck with fresh batteries in it it I can barely control it.

Make sure the cup holders for your rear differential aren't rubbing. I want to get a new RD but I don't to either wait 3-6 weeks from RS or spend 20$ for a 4$ part from ebay..bah

I already bought a load of stuff from RS... I think 3-6 is the norm now. everything I ordered should get here next week.
