my first mod/new antenna

just completed the first part of it, hooking it up and fitting it in. tested it, and all it needs is some better wiring for the long shots and it will be perfect. i have attached some pictures.

i used the tool kit and did all this by hand. first i drilled a hole thru the original antenna piece(the actual place u attach it) all the way thru to the other side, and fit a screw thru it. i took an antenna off of a cordless house phone and screwed it in with the wires wrapped into it. then the hardest, longest part, i drilled, filed, and cut a hole so that the antenna would fit. kinda a square and its a tight fit, so ima adjust it and it will be good. looks cool too lol.

for now, ive got about another 10-20 feet, but it starts gettin a bit choppy around the extra 15-20 area, the wiring sucks. the wiring isnt suffient enough for the big antenna, BUT on the up side, it did add range, and on the short end, it responds like a dream. i swear the accel is better. Another down ive spotted quickly is now my wieght is unbalanced, but i really dont have a problem with it if im just planning on drag racing. if i wanna do circuit i could use the old antenna, because i dont need as much range on circuit, same with drift.

i appreciate you sayin it looks cool, i think so as well. Once i get the wiring a bit better ill update it, but i think that will be a while b/c im not a wiring type of person.

At first tho, it was a bunch of tangle wire that i had going on, cause i took some out of the phone. but i straightened it out, and put a piece (similar to the one that comes soldered to the wire in the first place, except bigger) with the wire wrapped on it and screwed it in, made it work better at those distances.

But i guess thats it for now, any other comments, please leave them.

that looks like kind of a big tradeoff, that thing must slow the car down because it looks alot heavier than that thin light antenna

bdon240 12-28-2003 01:00 AM

its not really that heavy and its most def not slower. but anyways, once i get different wiring it will def be more worth it.

i just hooked mine up with my stock antenna from my cell phone, and i seriously just picked up like 35 ft to where i can still put it in reverse and get it back. its also alot shorter and lighter, some of you may want to try this.

bdon240 12-28-2003 11:57 AM

not a bad idea, didnt think of that. now i have that rather large hole there but i guess i could use it for somethin. i just talked to a rs guy and he i could maybe try that cordless phone idea, so i did and it turned out good. better range, about 60 feet roughly, give or take some. plus i swear the bottom end/accel is quicker. ill think about that cell phone thing, i just dont have one layin around, another problem.

Something alot easier is just cut some cooper wire and take out the stock attenna and put the new on in its place.:D
