I attempted a fade with rattle cans, and while it would have been better with an airbrush (gotta get one soon), it still turned out pretty good IMO. I left all the grills and vents painted the same color as the body because I thought they looked like a bis mouth or something painted silver or black.

Well, here it is...

that's a very nice paint job BC! have you tried fading it from front to rear rather than top to bottom? maybe you can kinda do both like have it fade from teh front and top towards the back and bottom

Bad Company 12-21-2003 07:53 PM

Thank you. I really didn't plan on painting this, I was just sitting here wondering what to do with two half empty cans of paint. I hate to waste Tamyia paint. It was just something I was gonna experiment with, but it turned out pretty good. Maybe I will try the front to rear fade on one of my Supras.

do u mask the windows when u paint? or just paint it all and then paint the windows black again?

I mask them with Tamiya masking tape.

yeah thats a good question. my problem is with the masking and the touch up

edit: do you paint or touch up the windows?? or do they just turn out that good:eek: !?

Bad Company 12-21-2003 08:15 PM

Most of the time they turn out that good, but I have had to touch up before. The trick is to lay your tape down and overlap the window. Then use something small to press the tape down in the seem. Finally cut the outline out with an Xacto knife by following that same seem line.

Also, you should use light coats of paint at first. This will seal up the edges and not allow the heavier coats to seep thru.

Removing the tape is critical too. Don't wait for the paint to completey dry. I slowly and carefully remove the tape while the paint is still a little bit tacky, this prevents the edges from cracking. Don't remove it too early though or you might pull up the paint. With the Tamiya, I remove the tape about 30 minutes after the last coat.

Looks good as usual. The RSX wheels look so much better than the stock Civic wheels, don't they? ;)

I do think The grille openings would look better in black...

Bad Company 12-21-2003 08:42 PM

Yes, the RSX wheels are my favorite that RS puts out. I just may go back and paint the grills black after all.

Thanks

thanks alot bc, btw i really like the top to bottom fade (or is it bottom to top??, we may never know!), it is something different for me because i am used to all the fades that i have on my microsizers and my xmod(front to back or back to front, ahh the beuty of fades...)

Bad Company, almost EVERYDAY you post a new painted or modded car of yours. New paintjobs here and there, and it's happening so often so fast! No wonder you're a mod man! You're a genius!

This is the reply I got when I submitted the pic for "Rate an Xmod" on www.xmodsrc.com. Needless to say, I sent them an email back stating how unknowledgable they are about their own products.....
