sbp motor tests w/ results
 

well today I tested out my sbp motor for the first time, as well as a comparison to all the other motors I have for the xmod.

Car: Supra
Set up: Stock tires were used for testing (cause I was too lazy to swap them :(), metal bearings, awd drive kit, suspension upgrade, 4.5 degree toe in, stiff springs rear, soft springs front. Car was also tested with out the body.

also tested just for comparison, a rear wheel drive rsx with top speed motor installed.

Testing 3 runs each motor, 50 foot times.

Supra:

white stage one: average 4.43, best 4.37
White stage two: average 3.77, best 3.73
yellow stage two: average 3.63, best 3.49
blue stage two: average 3.81, best 3.77

rsx:

blue stage two: average 3.70, best 3.66


now the two top performers

Supra:

Red stage two: average 3.45, best 3.32
SBP with 11 tooth pinion: average 3.4, best 3.33


I'm pretty sure I could of gotten a little better results if I had more time, but it was a bit cold out. I want to do some speed runs and do some timing from a rolling start. Although the red drag motor was pretty close in times to the sbp motor, the sbp motor had better take offs, and a quicker throttle response. And the sbp motor was more consistant. tomorrow if time permits I will test for top speed of at least the drag motor and sbp since they both seem to work best with my set up. also I am sure with a different pinion gear installed I would of had and even better 50 foot time with the sbp motor than I already did.

the mabuchi motor I had from the cyber sonic tooth brush wasn't even worth testing, it had no power at all, it was slower than the stage one drift motor, with less power than the stage two top speed motor.

no prob. I really feel the sbp motor is still untaped, with the 11 tooth pinion it still has plenty of torque. with a bigger pinion gear set up i think it would still have enough torque to get going and tons more top end. I bought a mini z 12 tooth pinion but it was smaller than the xmod 11 tooth pinion, and too long.

I really want to do some speed runs and find out how fast this thing will go in terms of mph. the 0-50 feet runds only show accelration, because it starts from a stand still, max speed was only in the 10-11 mph range, doingg the 15/22 method, so I want to do some 10-20 foot from a rolling start to see what max speed I am at.

Well, that confirms my findings that the stage 2 drag is the best overall setup. Too bad you don't have a set of stage 1 motors to throw them into the mix as well.

And then there is the frankenstein motor options, where you mix and match pieces from different motors. I have several of those. ie, stage 2 drag with timing advance and spin brush magnets, X speed armature in a stage 2 can with timing advanced and Auldey magnets, custom 25 turn armature in Auldey can with Squat magnets...

try the sbp in a RWD only setup, because mine pulls on my buddies red stage 2 like u cant believe

Well, the lack of torque in the stage 2 should tip the scales in the favor of the SpinBrush motor, even more so in AWD. The fact that the stock SB motor runs pretty much the same in AWD as the S2 drag would lead me to believe that the S2 drag would be slightly faster in RWD. There may be other factors at work here besides just the motor. stl2ner's tests are good, becuase they are using the same car for most of the tests, therefore getting a good comparison.

I have one frankenstien motor, it hasn't been tested yet but seems pretty strong and quick. I took the housing from my mabuchi motor, the magnets from a trashed sbp motor, the brushes and caps from a rs motor, and the aramature from a stage two motor.

one thing I noticed when putting together this motor was that the magnets in the stage two motors are stronger than the stage one motors, the wind is different in the two also.

I am thinking of pulling the armature from the a stage one and swapping it into my frankenstein motor. to see what difference there is.


If I had the same pinion on my sbp motor as on the drag motor, I guarantee the sbp motor would kill the drag motor, with the 11 tooth pinion, it was just as quick accelerating as the drag. But I bet the top end is still better with my sbp motor, It is raining today so I can't do the speed runs to see which motor is faster top end wise.

i can get these motors for like 3 bucks a pair....

sorry i meant to say i can the the brushes for the motors lol they are called Gold Dust brushes and run around 3.00

on on of the first ones how is the average faster then the best?just curios it doesnt seem right but nice test

I would be willing to make some motors, but it would be pricey unless you planned on sending the donor motor, for the brushes, caps and pinions. Not pricey in terms as I would charge alot, just the cost of the brush motor, and donor motor which unfortunately can only be bought in packs of four, with only one of the same size pinions in the set.

actually i was asking neurokinetik but if you wanna do it to then i can send money for the necessary parts and a little extra for the labor. i'll just wait until you come up with the perfectly well balanced frankenmotor
