mini heli's
 

On ebay I was looking up cameras for rc cars and ran across a bunch of different rc heli's for sale cheap. They are small and meant for indoors or wind-free days but I was curious.

Has anybody tried these yet?

Cool! MRC Academy make a mini heli. It flies on a tether though.

the heli's are too expensive......but then, so are the planes! lol......eather way i spend lots of money! please look at my other planes here in the micro flight section

On Ebay they have a bunch of micro heli's with digital video camera straight from Hong Kong for $100. It sounds like a nice little toy.

I was hoping someone around here tried one and could give some feedback.

I also caught a show on the DIY network on the new mini-heli's from major manufacturers due out soon. I haven't seen them at the local hobbytown yet but if they are under $200 it would be reasonable.

unfortunatly, the only good heli you will get for under $200 would be ARF (almost ready to fly) needing rx, tx, motor, gearbox, gyro, servos, etc........


but there are some that are really good.........here is one: www.ikarus.net

they have every halecopter size range you could want, but like i said, the price will be high......




i would recomend starting with a plane before flying a heli..........the Merlin (please see my post) is one of the most recomended first planes. it is VERY rugged and easy to fly. www.megatech.com

I agree that rc planes would be an easier way to start and less expensive as well but heli's have always been intrigueing.

Here is the link to the helicopter that I was talking about. 1.5' long, 2' wingspan and everything included for $225. They have them on ebay as well for alot less.

Hi All,
The mini heli's are very cool, but watch out for the $225 packages. Though they very good deals no question, they are mode 2 TX's. This means the throttle stick is on the right side instead of the left. It is backwards compared to a mode 1 TX.If you are crafty, you can convert the tx to mode 1 with a little work. I have one of the ebay heli's called "Dragonfly". I purchased the heli only with mixer/esc. It flies pretty good with a bit of tinkering, but then that's half the fun.

Eco Piccolo Details
 

Hi, sorry for the delay as I was out of town. OK so this is an Eco Piccolo micro electric heli, it has fixed pitch rotor head(the blades do not change angle of attack for lift). Lift is produced but increasing rotor head speed. Uses a micro motor for the tailrotor instead of a drive belt or wire. It is the "Fun" version which means it has bushings instead of bearings. Works fine if you want to get a taste of heli's without spending more money. It runs about $69 on the net without electronics. It uses all the micro rc equipment as all the other micro heli's. I used a GWS PG-03 gyro in it as I do in my Hummingbird. Some use the CSM and others Futaba. I wanted to see how inexpensive I could build one for. Lots and lots of upgrade parts available for it. This particular heli I built was a complete package inc. charger. Ran about $379

Here is my errant alien patrol helicopter.

It has a brushless main motor of course.

I have been looking at getting a piccolo fun with some upgrades like bearings.

The fun pic is a good choice. It is smooth and predictable. It does however need some upgrades I feel for the beginner to be successful. Bearings are not a necessity right now. Focus on control. A swashplate ball insert is a good place to start as well as the swashplate support arm available from many of the micro heli websites. If anything, I would spend the money on this first before the bearings. I fly gas heli's so I have the big stuff, but in the winter, fingers get cold quick, so I love the micro heli's for buzzing around inside the house. The fun pic I built for my father-in-law has just become mine again, so I decided to chop it. Going 25% smaller. I will post my project as it progresses for all to see! Happy Hovering............
