Possible shortage?

Been hearing about the strike at the docks on the West cost. Since most of our little friends Bits, Microsizers, ZZ, DigiQ etc come by cargo ship I am assuming if they don’t get it settled quickly both cost and availability will occur.

Yes, I heard about that too - I will check w/ some friends in the importing biz and see what they say.

Shacky 10-02-2002 01:39 AM

It sounds like a mess from the news reports. They say it hasn't effected imports yet, but it's possible that their dispute could draw the economy down more.

The union calls it a lockout and the Port calls it a strike.

From a friend in the importing business:

Quote:

Yes, it sucks. We have 17,800 ... sitting in a container. But, it is worse for other people such as those who had Halloween retail freight for import or fruit exporters. Also, the guys working on the boats that are stranded out at sea. I'll be much more frustrated if this goes on more than a few days (as will everyone).

A shortage? Hmmm so if we could be among the eleet to have one of these cars cause others can't get them cause of the ships not unloading?

Vaelin 10-02-2002 02:01 AM

Well, you can always order individual ones from overseas.. they come over by airmail, circumventing the whole lockout/strike. I think it's about the same as buying locally.

Deadite 10-02-2002 02:04 AM

I see said the blind man....oh well guess I'm not eleet then....hehehe

Ending for now...

President Bush just ordered an injunction to the West Coast Port Lockout and an 80 day cooling off period under the Taft-Harley Act. The union was talking about resuming business tomorrow, but that was on the 30 day terms they set forth.

So I hope parts and some stuff I get from Japan will show up shortly. :)

Smurf 10-08-2002 05:23 PM

datamonster 10-08-2002 08:30 PM

from what i hear, the port strike is over now.

Nightwing 10-08-2002 08:32 PM

Dont they need to first go and get a judge to rule? There are a few steps to go through before the 80day stuff could be activated.

usagi 10-08-2002 08:33 PM

Its over thank god :)

Nightwing 10-08-2002 08:35 PM

Take it back! Its over! Its fork time! { Bit boxes being tossed in the air! } :)

usagi 10-08-2002 08:54 PM

Items broken by careless dock workers making $80,000 to $120,000 per year. Can you believe that  If knew I did not have to go to university to make good money but instead be a dock worker I would have.
