ZipZaps: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Alright, there's a new player in town and it warrants it's own FAQ.
#1: What's a ZipZaps? A: It's a 1/64th Scale, Radio Controlled Car. #2: Who makes/sells the ZipZaps? A: Well, technically speaking, they're 'made' in China by a company called Ka Wah...But they're sold in the US, by Radio Shack. You can buy them at Radio Shack, online (shipped within the US only) or in the physical stores #3: How much do they cost? A: A Kit (Car and Controller) costs $19.99(US) #4: Where can I see pictures of them? A: Here's a few links... Radio Shack | My Gallery | ZipZaps Website #5: How do ZipZaps compare with the Bits/MicroSizers? A: Well, I'm not going to get into the performance part (since it's more of a subjective subject) but here are a few physical comparisons... Size: The ZipZaps are 1/64th Scale, while the Bit/MicroSizers are about 1/80th Scale. Here's a picture of the 2 Chassis': http://tinyrc.com/gallery/album16/aag Wheels: The ZipZaps have the same size front and rear wheels. They also use Hubcaps for different styling. The Bits/MS have smaller front wheels vs. rear wheels. Solid rims on the wheels (no hubcaps) Tires: ZipZaps have tires in 3 tread designs (All-Season, Sport and Factory). Bits/MS have just 1 tread design (slicks) but in different compounds (soft, medium, hard) Motors: ZipZap motors are available in; 1.0, 1.6(stock on all kits), 2.15 and 2.35 Bits/MS motors are available in; 1.0, 1.6, 2.2, 2.6 and 3.0 Gears: The same gearing ratios are available for the ZZ and Bits (12:1, 9.86:1 and 8.25:1) #6: Can I use parts from the Bits on my ZipZaps (and vice versa)? A: Refer to the Compatibility List #7: What kind of Battery is in the ZipZaps? A: The Car has a; NiMH, 1/3AAA size, 1.2v @ 100mAH battery. The controller takes 2 "AAA" batteries (not included) #8: How many friends can I race with? A: The ZipZaps are available in only 2 frequencies (27MHz and 49MHz). That means there can only be a race with 2 cars. #9: I'm not very impressed with the ZZ bodies, what other options do I have? A: Apart from the several Body Kits available (like The Fast & The Furious body kits)...You can also use 'HO Scale' Slotcar, Lexan bodies. 'HO' is the reference for 1/64th scale in the Slotcar world. ZipZaps are 1/64th scale and so the bodies will fit. Here is a site that sells several brands... http://www.scaleauto.com/bodies/ #10: I bought a 'HO Scale' Lexan body...How do I paint this thing? A: The IMPORTANT thing to remember is to paint from the INSIDE of the body! Refer to this thread for a step-by-step guide: http://tinyrc.com/forums/showthread....&threadid=1511 |
