LED voltage
 

2 day i bought 2 3mm leds 2 put in my bit. I am also using these tiny little leds that i found at my uncles house. I tried the 3mm leds on a 3V watch battery and i can hardly see them. the smaller 1s are fine on 3V however. would 6V be 2 much 4 3mm leds? what voltage should i b powering them at?

Actually it really depends on the LEDs themselves. You need to ask about the voltage they can take, because there are many different voltages available. Those I bought run on 3V, and I've seen those which run on mains power.

If you overpower your LEDs they would not really burn, but shine much brighter and hence have a shortened life. In other words overpowering the LEDs makes them last a shorter time. I saw this set of LEDs for the Tamiya Mini 4WD cars. They each had a little resistor connected. This ensures that just the right amount of current goes into them, allowing for maximum life. So, be sure to know what voltages your LEDs run on.

I played with those reg LED before n made nice headlites etc.

But now i own a 350z n got some problems with runnin thick wires.
I was wondering how to use SMT LED a better way then use reg wires b/c i can made them smt led work on one wire to each surface of it, except its too fragile. the car bounces a few time or removing teh body a few time it get loose.an its a pain to solder em over and over again.

I think there's another thread on SMT LEDs. I think they're really fragile and can't really take the torture we're giving the cars. Maybe we should stick to the regular LEDs and probably use thin wires, like 20 AWG and above? Or those with diameters of less than 1mm? I'm working on light sets for both my Bit and the 1/24 auldey race tin cars, so I guess regular LEDs should do the job equally well compared to SMTs, that is, if you have more space under the shell.
