"new" skid plate...
 

i don't know who all is interested, but i used the dimensions for the skid plate posted previously...only minor adjustments to the rear end length....and created a plate from a 2-liter drink bottle....yes i know it's plastic as well, but it'll prevent scratches to the chassis, is a little more flexible, and weighs less than the aluminum...i also have dimensions that i'll post and i'll try to get a pic up soon...but it seems like it'll work nicely once on the car...

I would be curious to see how it turned out. How would you get it flat? Plastic doesn't bend and hold shape. Also, this very thin aluminum weighs almost nothing at all, plus IMO looks way better than plastic.

almost finished cutting the holes out now, i'll fit it soon and get pics up, i think you might like this, hehe...
i like the clearness so you can still see the car bottom, but maybe that's just me...

here's the pics, let me know what you think...to get the length you need to make it go up under the rear bumper, just add 1-1/2" to the previous diagram for the skid plate...

Looks great but I'm wondering how did you get the plastic flat from the bottle?

hehe, all i did was roll it in the reverse direction that it was originally into about a 1" roll, with two rubberbands, and left it like that over night...

Ahh, very clever :D I'm going to try this because I have alot of scratches from driving it in my basement (which is getting a new floor so I'm driving it on dusty old concrete:p)

Wow. That is a very clever modification. I need a skid plate too because when I drive my skyline around it gets sratched.

ok guys i don't have my xmod yet because i am from canada but soon i will because its getting shipped soon, but i have one question does it really gets scratched so bad?:confused:

on the underside, the rear suspension 'knobs' will be scratched if you don't take precautions...so yes...

Wow....I'm very impressed. That looks awesome, I'm gonna have to do this myself. I was a little hesitant about the plastic being round, but it turned out great. Any problems with it wanting to return to it's original shape? I take it you cut a little slit where you made the bends?

I am going to make a skid plate because the bottom of my skyline is all sratched up.

Tutie:

1. Find a 2-liter (preferrably empty and cleaned) bottle of your favorite soda (cheerwine for me)...hehe
2. leave the label on, as this is how you get the straightest cuts...
3. proceed to cut the bottle with scissors along the top and the bottom of the label...
4. Next, cut the label from top to bottom, so it's no longer a cylinder.
5. This is the important part...you need to roll the plastic in the opposite direction of the curl...and put 2-3 rubber bands on it and leave it for a while, prolly overnight is best.
6. I changed basically one thing on the posted dimensions of the aluminum skid plate the length of the rear end...add exactly 1-1/2" to the end of the rear piece, but i will now make a drawing of the thing with dimensions on it as i have measure them just now, hehe...

Thanks for the tutorial. The reason I stopped mine short of the rear end is to have access to the body tab and locking device. Did you cut a hole for that or what?
