I went to radioshack yesterday and I saw a zip zap lap timer. Has anyone bought this?

Looked at it yesterday, I may go back and get it and some more track today. Looks cool!

I think that it is about $9.99. I didnt buy it because I am using my money to buy some XMOD upgrades.

I bought it yesterday, and it is cool!! The timer is really quick (it can catch cars that are goinbg really fast) and the cool thing is it measures speed!! It uses two sets of infrared (sp?) LEDs so it is very accurate and the speed function is really cool!!! So far, the fastest I have gone in my SE is 241 scale mph, using the NX motor and 8.25:1 gears. I don't have the MS lap time, but I have heard about it and it seems the ZZ lap timer is much better. I think anyone who likes to race and likes speed measurements get this because it is really cool!!!

Do you think that you could use an XMOD on that lap timer? :p

As airline2 said, the scale speed would be inaccurate, but i assume the FPM rating would still work for XMODS.

If you spread the two seperate IR sensors (the set you hit first and the set you hit last) apart a little (to scale from the ZZ to the XMOD) and raise them off the ground a little so they can't see under the body (between the wheels) then you could get an accurate reading with an XMOD.

I'm not sure it would work for either. The lap counter has two sets of lights (traps) that the car runs thru. These are spaced out enough to measure a Zip, but I believe they are too close to recognize an Xmod.

That's why I mentioned setting them further apart (to scale from a zz to an XMOD, I don't have an XMOD yet so I can't measure). It'd intail cutting up the counter, but could be done if you wanted.
