Word To Modders

at the tournaments your car cannot have any mods that are not endorsed by RS, your car will be subject to inspection. i think that the only thing u r allowed to mod with non shack endorsed products is the body.

sessiz10 10-22-2003 05:13 PM

So then I'll have to get another. I would recomend they open up a universal mod class or something or come out with some more "important" hopups that we could use. A new servo with a full propo that we could stick in to our cars as an upgrade would be nice. Not too mention some speedier motors. I'm a patient man, but not very.:D

Savior*insider 10-22-2003 07:22 PM

dont expect too many more upgrades anytime soon. i do agree that a universal modder class would be pretty kewl but it wouldnt be eligable for the grand prize. there will however be a body mod contest that will be quite competitive im thinking.

Silent_NightR34 10-22-2003 07:37 PM

what tournaments are you talking about? are they gonna be at the radioshack stores or somthing?

Savior*insider 10-22-2003 10:28 PM

u havent heared about the national tournament? they are going to do a summer racing tour. (look at the back of your super street mini-mag) they will have lots of regional tourneys and then a final big tourney (locations not yet decided) its still in the works right now but it WILL happen.

Rules?

I wonder how they will handle upgrades that you can do with shack parts? Like replacing all that thin, spindly wire with a shorter, better routed peice of larger guage stuff, changing batterys, adding batteries, and that sort of stuff. Shoot, even soldering the motor in will help you some. I guess it's all what you can get away with untill you get caught.

They better have a weight range too, because I could dremel out all that ribbing and screw holders from inside the chassis, and under the hood, eliminate all those screws by using glue, and it would shave a lot of weight.

Even then if they do have a weight range, you could glue all the screws you took out in one part of the chassis to give you more weight where you need it.

I hope they write up the rules, so we can start breaking them!

Hmmm...A tournament would be really cool. But that sucks that you cant have mods that arent endorsed by radioshack. What types of upgrades do you think radioshack will come out with later?

If there were teams of racers I'd want to team up with "mbartell" just because of those good idea's.

If I ever race against you "mbartell" I want to inspect your car. lol

mbartell 10-23-2003 04:27 PM

Hey- if there is a rule there had to be someone who did it, right?

Actually I think it would be cool to get a vacum forming machine and make a stock looking ultra light body.
If you took all the body parts apart and molded them seperatly you would probably fool anyone who didn't pick it up.

"no, I just filled in all the seams, and put a REALLY THICK clear coat on it."

I just need to get my soldering iron back- I loaned it to a friend who had an engine fire in his beetle.

I've got a 71 super beetle- do you have one, slugbugg or is it just a nick name?
I just go for the first initial and last name thing.

Savior*insider 10-23-2003 04:35 PM

yes there will be team racing. there are plans for every team to have a "garage" on the xmods website where u can go and put pics of ur cars and a calendar of races and other team related things. there will be a member login on the website that launches 10/24/03.

slugbugg 10-23-2003 04:49 PM

I had a 72 baja bug that I bought from my sister that I have since sold but I started using this nickname back when I had it and just kept it using it.

When I'd drive me bug I'd see people doing what we called "slugbug" (call out SLUGBUG and lightly hit the person your with in the shoulder-just a little game)
I thought if they do that when they see my bug maybe the'll think a vw bug when they see my nickname.

I want to get another bug it's just not going to happen right now.

mbartell 10-23-2003 04:52 PM

Yeah, it's fun watching people hit each other as I drive by- it causes so much pain for such a happy little car....

Savior*insider 10-23-2003 06:44 PM

lol way to kill the topic =P

mbartell 10-24-2003 09:55 AM

unlimited

I'm sure that if you have enough local support, you can create your own classes- I wouldn't see rat-shack sponsoring any of it, but it would be fun to lay the smack down on someone who dosn't know what else is out there.
A simple list for a unlimited car (assuming that you could get all the parts working together)
Motor from a tamiya mini 4wd, or hand wound audley motor with bb's
c/f chassis or just swiss cheesed stock one
slot car lexan body
turbo from a mini z
split compound tires
a steering horn that gives you more throw.
and that woudl still use the stock radio and controller.
All that would run you around $50, if you could find or order it, and the biggest if- do the mini z turbos work on these?

(sorry savior*insider- it was a vw thing)

mbartell 10-24-2003 10:19 AM

really wild

OK here's a challenge for you then- how about a better rear suspension?
The swing arm thing has to go- how about getting annother 4wd kit and set it up in the rear? You would have to make a lower A-arm for it, but you probably have something laying around to use. You could also set the toe-in on the rear wheels depending on what tie-rod arm you use. Just figure out how to keep that tie rod in place.

I like posting ideas like this- not to discourage, just to get people to think a little more.
