Interesting problem...
 

I have a Skyline with metal bearings and the white stage 2 motor.

This just started today, and I'm baffled. Sometimes when it accelerates for a few seconds, it will seem to stall and I'll hear this high pitched squeal sound. It does it somewhat sporadically. I already took the drivetrain completely apart and cleaned all the bearings and it still does it a little. Any ideas?

same thing happened to me but i think it was because i had the wrong gear uhhhh:confused:

That's a possibility, but it was running fine last night. Now tonight it comes up with this. It goes away after awhile, but when I turn it off for a few minutes it does it again when I turn it back on.

If by front spacer you mean the little plastic bar that goes between the front wheels, then no, that's still there.

Hmm... is it the sound that an ESC sometimes makes, you know that high pitched sound or is it a mechanical sound?

If the sound is most noticable at low speeds and when just starting I'm inclined to say it is the ESC making a noise.I just listened very carefully to mine and it makes a slight noise when first hitting the throttle-caused by the ESC-normal.

Also there are bushings on each end of the motors that could whine and make a high pitched noise if they are dry, one small drop of high quality oil is good for that.

of course you also say it is stalling and that just isn't right I would try another motor in it and if it continues you may have an ESC problem.
But before you do anything drastic check all wire connections closely and the whole driveline very closely.I really dont like the wires, they feel fragile to me.(probaly just my big ape hands-lol)

I've heard the sound you're describing and this is not it. This is way louder. I talked to someone at my LHS and he suggested that the armature in the motor may be screwed up, so I'm gonna try a different motor and see if that fixes it.

yeah i got that same exact sound today. its a really high pitched squeeling and it only happened when my car was reaching top speed. same thing it slowed down the car. i thought that maybe something had gotten stuck somewhere. i messed with it for a little while revving it off the ground and stuff and i found that when i switched it to lo speed the squeeling didnt happen. after awhile i switched it to hi and it worked fine. i dont no what the problem is but it seemed to fix itself ill have to see if it happens again later

On mine it went away for awhile but came back. I changed from the white stage 2 to the red and it hasn't done it, so I think the motor is just screwed up. Guess I'll have to go get a pinion puller so I can still use that gearing.

or bring it back and get a new motor set

stating the obvious..... did you lube the motor bearing surfaces?

I didn't, but only because I don't have any to use right here. I'll see if I can get some in a few days and see if that fixes it.

hmm wierd mine got the squeeling while using the red stage 2. my white one worked fine the whole time i used it. no i havent lubed the motor bearing. i decided not to used the grease that came with the AWD cause it sez that it attracts dirt and my car gets plent dirty from the tennis courts and my basement. who nos maybe theres dirt in there.

I also noticed that my red motor runs a lot quieter than my white motor. Maybe there is something to using the grease.

You really should put one small drop of fine grade oil on each motor bushing right from the start to help lubricate the shaft/bushing, slowdown wear and increase RPM's.

3-in one oil, zoom spout oil, you can get this stuff almost anywhere for a few bucks.

As soon as I find motor with bearings that motor will be in my cars.



When I say one small drop I mean just a little drop because if you use to much oil it will get on the brushes/commutator and really foul up your motor.It wont ruin it but you would have to take the motor apart to really get it cleaned up and these motors are not really meant to be taken apart.(but yes they do come apart)

I wouldn't use grease on the motor bushings just because it might not penetrate into the bushing.
You want to use oil so it soaks into the oilite bushing.

If you look very very closely at a bushing they are somewhat porous so the oil kind of soaks into them and keeps lubricating untill all the oil is gone.You do need to re-oil them from time to time just dont over do it.

I have used the grease in my ball diff, inside front gear diff and on the suspension kits shock shafts.

Of course you guys know that the 1/8 scale buggies use different thickness's/stickyness of grease in the diff's to set up for different traction conditions.
