It's just a small IC that's covering by some kind of protective crud.

They do that so the part inside dosn't get damaged by heat or shock, a lot of wrist watches have it.

wut will hapen if i take it of

slugbugg 08-13-2003 03:08 PM

I always thought those were the brains/main intergrated circuit basically a chunk of silicone.

Rex 08-13-2003 03:45 PM

SlugBugg's right, IC means "Intigrated Circuit" (a.k.a. "the brains").

I wouldn't even begin to know how to take that gunk off without damaging the parts inside.

well im new at tiny rc in all but i asked that quuestion once to my dads electrician freind and he says every company has a different way of making "the brain of the circuit board" and the black gunk covers up there method of making it

P.S. trust me hes a good man

slugbugg 08-13-2003 09:43 PM

I had a watch that I carefully scraped most of that black stuff off and underneath it was the little brain (it was a calculator watch). The black coating is hard but the silicone chip underneath it is like glass and shattered.(glad I didnt get any in my eyes)

It would have been interesting to see it under a high power microscope.
