Single/Multi coil steering columns

Hey Guys,

A few questions.

On cars with the single steering coil in the center versus two on the sides, the electro-magnetic attraction is done by reversing the polarity on the coil. This means there are only two connections to the PCB for the steering. On the cars with the dual coils, there are three. I was wondering whether on the 3 pin style it uses both coils at the same time, or only one side. If it only use one coil, we should modify them to use both. One would push, the other would pull (I think, correct me here). That would give some serious quality steering. Any comments?

Pete

I'm not sure, but I don't think it would work. I remember something from my physics class that said that both coils would cancel each other out. Remember, this was 6 years ago, so I might be wrong.

The single coil should push and pull at the same time, whereas the dual coil only pulls.
