I have an idea for adjustable tab lowering.

It's worth a try. Let me explain this the best I can. This is for the front. I haven't figured out how to the rear yet, so I'm open to suggestions. You will have to remove the existing tab. You cut and bend 2 pieces of credit card like the blue in the pic. Next cut and glue together 3 pieces like the red. The tab sticking out at 90 degrees will be at 3 different levels or more if you perfer. In this case I will go with 3. One at 1/2, one at 1/4(1/2 between the first 1/2 and bottom), and one at 1/8(1/2 between 1/4 and bottom). You can actually flip the 1/4 and 1/8 piece around to raise the body. Next, you glue the 2 blue pieces to the chassis like in the pic. You have to do this so that the red pieces will slide in and out from the side, but the blue pieces have to put enough pressure to hold them in. In effect, the blue pieces will hold the red against the chassis. The you just swith out the red pieces with whatever height you want. I will try this myself later, but I don't see why it won't work. I'm still working on how to do this to the rear without restricting access to the heatsink screw and motor.

well, i c a problem for me, i've never been able to bend the credit card plastic and have it stay in place at a certain angle.
second problem is u need to lock that red piece in place otherwise the body might shift side to side and the wheel wells might rub against the tires. other than that it seems like a great idea. i might have an idea for the rear but this kinda works better with zips cuz it uses a screw. anyway, cut the tab off just enough so the body can slide down past it. well, see those two holes on the bottom? take the credit card pieces, bend it in a zig zag so that one side of the piece can get screwed into the bottom while the new tab is slightly above it. take a peek at the pic and u'll see what i mean. my only problem is the plastic flexing at the 90 degree bend but i guess that coudl act as a "shock absorber" for the body =) |
great idea, but is the zip zap motor held in with a screw? i dont know cuz us canadians dont get zip, stupid rat shack

That's a great idea for the rear. I was thinking something like that, but using the existing screw for the heatsink. My plan was that the blue pieces would be pulling the red tab against the chassis and it would be a tight fit. As for bending the credit cards...I use either a Gerber or pliers to create a straight bend and just push the card with my fingers around the pliers. Then bend it a little past so it springs back to a 90 degree. Maybe it's the brand of credit card I use, but it stays there pretty good.

sounds cool, but i think there would be an aweful lot of flex from all of the parts required and stuff. ahh5hit, i have a motorworks clone here dying to be modded/destroyed. we could try this on it when you come here... and for the back, what if you use screws on the bottom of the chassis and the heatsink screws? also, the back would be adjustable if you used the heatsink screws anyways, the more you tighten it, the lower it goes...

I think you might be on to something there on the heat sink screw part. This is just a start. Hopefully, between everyone on here, we can modify and perfect a way to do this entire mod better.
