Masking
 

when you are masking a car for spraypainting, do you cut the mask out of hte masking tape after it is already stuck on? or do you like make lots of measurements and make a perfect mask to cut out? anything else?

i would say to make mesurements. becuase i to were to not... it will be twice as hard as to cut it while its already stuck on.

I've found it's easier to stick the tape on the car (use the blue painters tape it comes off easier) press it into the creases that form the windows with your fingernail or some small flat tool and cut out along the crease with a sharp x-acto with a very light hand. With a little practise this is the only way to get a perfect mask.

same x-acto method for headlights etc? or is that just estimation and handpainting the rest?

For me, it depends on the mood or the car. I sometimes mask everything with the tape and cut method. Sometimes I just do the windows and hand paint the little details in.
You can even do these with the tape and cut.
