Found a great new speed increasing mod!
 

Hey guys, I've owned my first bit char-g for 24 hours now and have already found a great new speed mod! I just sprayed the axels with WD-40! It made my car fly. I accidently got some on the tires so it was slidding for a bit, but the dirt on my kitchen floor quickly dried it up. What do you guys think of this mod? Try it and see for yourself. Maybe it can get added to the mod page and I can get some credit for it :)

umm...hmmm..is that easy to wash off?
because dirt and stuff WILL get stuck to it

ill try it..cuz i got a can in my garage.....but want to test it out on stuff too

Yeah, I just used a paper towel to wash it off. Depending on how dirty of a surface you race on, it may not be a good idea, but either way, WD40 wipes off easily. Let me add that you have to spray VERY little WD-40 on the gears and axels. Chances are you'll spray 10 times more than needed your first time!

st5150, keep us updated on this, it sounds good but I'd be concerned about attracting dirt and about solidification - let us know how it works out for you over the next few days!

BEWARE of oil i tried using three in one oil and my motor ran great for a while (like 3/4 a day) and then the motor just broke so beware

ummm..i tried it..
all it seemed to do is make the engine and gears quieter...like its supposed to because its made to stop squeaks on door hinges.....;/
btw...i sprayed it on a Qtip and just wiped some on

but in the end...i didnt see an increase in speed with my 1.0 or my 3.0

Better to use non-oil based (graphite?) lubricant... you guys know what i am talking about? THe rc hobby stuff. The white stuff you see on stomper gears... Doesnt attract dust and grime.

If you race on a "dirty" floor, it WILL attract more junk, especially at first. My kitchen floor is spotless so I really don't have a problem with this after 2 days.

I gave my car a second dose today to do comparason tests, and I did notice another decent speed gain, but not nearly as much as the first time I sprayed it. I assume this is because there was still some oil left on the axel.


blacksabbath070- I think you over did it. I didn't spray the motor or other electronics.

MTL - did you take off the rear axel and oil it? I think that's where the most gain is from.


Friction = bad.

umm u mean putting the wd40 on the actual axle? i just put it on the gears....;/.....

Yes, put it on the axel. Pop it out, and swab it up with WD40 and snap it back into place.... and dab some on the front wheels while you're at it.... let us know how it works for you.





I soldered on solid wire attenna tonight.... improved range by a tad. I still think this annoying whip antenna on the transmitter has got to go.... I'll probably install a telescopic one I have lying around tomorrow and hope that'll increase my range.

Try a Dry Lube
 

I used a dry lubricant called Tri-Flow. It it dries after application and doesn't attrack dirt. Remember, a little dab will do ya!

uhh oks...i tried it ...
and again...no results except for noise reduction...which helps too...

How odd. Only thing I can think of is the fact my car was almost brand new when I did this.... your axels and gears may have already meshed and groved, creating a smooth low friction surface. I use to use this trick on my slot cars all the time.



Anyone else willing to try this?

Just a thought... I remember from cub scout Pinewood Derbys using dry graphite powder to lubricate the axles. Since it's totally dry it would seem that dirt accumulation wouldn't be a problem. Another thought...if graphite would work what about just using a pencil and "drawing" your lubrication on?
