Painting Tips.. Anyone?
Hello,
I got a few clear bodies but I noticed they don't have anything on the inside to block the windows during painting.... have you all been spending hours trimming tape by hand to do the windows? Icon. |
I haven't painted my bit yet, but if you're painting the outside, just cover the clear areas from the inside. Don't worry about being exact since you are just making sure that stray paint doesn't get in the clear areas.
Clear areas include the windows, head lights, and tail lights. |
Well.. i'm not exactly painting :-) ....
I just decided to pull out the blue painters tape and work with an exacto knife from the inside.... I just hope it looks as cool as I think it will when I'm done... if not I've wasted a few hours :-( Icon |
of course u need to mask the clear window on both outside and inside area. put on the tape and use tiny razor to cut along the planel lines on the outside to get the shape and just stick on big tape in the inside. .

well, u need to mask the window only.
u can try following and cutting the shape from the outside and then use it in the inside. |
I've painted my bodies from the outside. But try Liquid Mask, you should be able to find it at any local hobby store.
You just paint it on with a brush, about 2-3 coats. Let it dry, then paint your car and when your done peel it off the windows. |
yeah liquid mask rocks... it's great for headlights and turn signals ect. all the small things. :D
|
u could also use elmers school glue as liquid mask and cost less$$ its good i used it on my accord wagon.:D

If you're spraypainting, you can also use vaseline applied to the surface that you don't want painted. You just have to be careful not to peel your fresh paint off when you remove the vaseline.

To be on the safe side, use modelling masking tape, works best. Paint will rarely bleed through it. Also, theres this special masking tape I got called parafilm. It stretches and wraps the area you want nicely. http://micromark.com
