a solar powered bit racer... i wonder if you could convert that to a solar powered bit char-g... for non stop action outdoors!!!

hogjowlz 04-11-2003 12:05 PM

youd have to have this under high powered lamps in order to get enough juice to the motor. even then i doubt it would work as well as youd want.

Spanky 04-11-2003 12:23 PM

outside. in natural sunlight is where you would get the most juice.. thats why i said use it outside.. preferably on a sunnyday..

i know it wouldnt be a pocket rocket, but it would be cool.. and whos to say you couldnt get a bigger solar cell or for that matter get 2 solar cells to put on the car...

even if it only went 1.0 speeds it would be cool...

Duratrax 04-11-2003 12:41 PM

Sounds cool but the solar bateri should be several times bigger then the little bit(i think) And this bateries are expencive:(

Spanky 04-11-2003 12:45 PM

well if he could fit it in a kit racer im sure you could fit it in a bit char-g. yea its expensive but so is the li-poly.. if i had the moula i would give it a try...

Spanky 04-11-2003 01:44 PM

i e-mailed the guy that made that car. I asked him how much juice that one solar panel generates, and here is what he said

"As far as I can remember, they put out around 3.5V for 24mm*33mm solar-panel. That is more than enough to chargemost of the caps, battery and run the motor for sure."

so if you are running outside on a sunny day you should be ok.. and it just might fly!!!

nice find guys!

BillyP 04-11-2003 04:25 PM

I wouldn't want a solar powered bit, but if somebody built a solar powered charger, tha'd be great!

smokin'1320 04-11-2003 04:31 PM

i once used a solar panal from a knex set on a tyco canned heat n addition 2 the aa batts it made it pretty fast when i ran it out side , but finding a panal that small might b hard.

Lord_Nick_D 04-11-2003 04:44 PM

in canadian radioshack they have these solar car kits and they use much larger motors so it must put out decent power also with solar energy it is stored so the power gets time to build up before you unleash it with 3V like that guy said
