Dual Cell idea

Why don't we dual cell the Li-poly cells? I thought of that a while ago!

BillyP 04-06-2003 07:46 PM

That's as much voltage as 6 NiMH cells!

Well, nothing is impossible! I think you need a special charger for Li-poly cells.

xatu 04-06-2003 07:59 PM

What are Li-Poly cells anyway?

BillyP 04-06-2003 08:08 PM

Lithium Polymer. I posted a link to an Extreme Tech article somewhere that talks about them.

Think about the speed!

chelboed 04-07-2003 01:52 PM

I think it would be too much voltage. I did a Layman 6cell mod and it was way too much voltage. It actually ran slower than a 4cell. Too much food for such a small tummy.

Yeah, I've read in some other threads that motors run faster with more cells, and then slower with too many cells.

BTW, where did you fit in six cells? That's so cool!

Web Guy 04-07-2003 03:50 PM

A Laymen 6 cell is equal to to regular dual cells in size wise!!....

xatu 04-07-2003 04:51 PM

Got any pics of these Li-Poly cells? I wanna see them, and how big they are and all.

BillyP 04-07-2003 07:09 PM

Nope.

I have nothing. I guess I could say, I'm all talk! :D

xatu 04-07-2003 07:40 PM

Crap! Lol, I wanna see what these look like...

I did it like an internal dual cell mod with 2x triple stacks of 3. It was too stupid. I could have fried everything. I hooked my 3.5 motor up directly to a 9v battery and held it there for like 10 or 20 seconds. Then I had to drop it 'cause it was so dad'gum hot! I think 3cell is way plenty. 4 for a drag car, maybe. I find a single is plenty for tech tracks.

I'm gonna try a "Layman's Tri' Plus One." The "big cap" (you guys know what I mean) gets in the way, because it's leads are so long. If I cut it off and solder it closer to the PCB, it will fit in the chasis hanging straight down. Then the fourth button goes in sideways next to the other three.

Search for flash and see pics of a flash battery!

BTW Please stay on topic! I don't want another rotary!

Web Guy 04-08-2003 02:33 PM

I can't read it but it will give you an idea about what they look like and how they install..
