My Top Secret project revealed!
Here she be! My Twin Engine, Twin Cell, AWD dragster is complete and boy is it fast! now I just need to fit it with a body, and its about the perfect length for "The Buster" A HotWheels truck I have...Any questions?

Whoa! How many batteries are in there. I'd like to see that with an r-spec and some K.I.T. gears and maybe dustn's direct drive mod! All you need is a real cool body.
|
For now its just 2 batteries (2.4V) with two 2.6 motors and light 'teal' gears. And I'm trying to find a picture of the body....
Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to 3 cell (3.6V) and 2 R-Spec motors. What do the KIT gears do? and what is the Direct Drive mod? I've never heard of it |
And heres the body for it:

How did you reverse the polarity in the motor? It looks like they wouldn't turn in the same direction. Or are my eyes just foolin me?
|
I'm wondering about the steering. Doesn't look like there is any.

K.I.T. gears are from K.I.T. Racers and some parts are interchangable. They have low gear ratios like 3.43:1. The direct drive mod is where you mod the place where you snap in the axle so you don't need an idler gear and it's direct pinion gear to axle gear.

What would you recommend for Motors? I will def. add another battery (3 cell will probably be most, I dont want to fry it seen as 2 motors and 3 cells are all on one PCB) but first I just wanted to get it up and running.
|
I'm loving the perfection 3.8 motors from toyeast. I also here good things about the rspec from this site (hint, hint, nudge, nudge) ;) :D
|
this kinda stuff scares me sh!tless.... and i have nooo idea how you guys can pull this kinda mod..
but you get my vote for the maddest mod around... aint never seen that kinda setup before, so Congrats man.... does it go straight..? :D |

And, it doesn't really take a whole lotta know-how to do this kinda mod...just time, lots of it, I've been working on this project for weeks and weeks, costed me about $60 (I had to buy a Soldering Gun, More chassis', more motors, gears, etc.) But I should be able to replicate it pretty cheap now that I have the supplies. |
madness dude... i still say, that's insane...
are you going to putty the bodys together? i was thinking, maybe make a flex point in the middle where you could adjust "steering" trim... you know what im saying rite? just in case you bang into something and knock out the alignment.. gj d00d... oh, and i know there's some real big truck fans out there, (pig, im lookin ur way...) but i would be thinking dragster body... aaand... do the wheels turn at the same speed? even if the motors are rated the same, they often have discrepancies.... and with the motor choice, i'd go perfection 3.8 too.. i never tried it, but i've heard nothing bad about them! |
yea that might not be a bad idea...I also need a 100% sure-fire way to align the chassis'...because I dont want to get the Chassis' glued/puttied together than have it drift...I don't know....
And for how "complicated" this was...I still dont know how to lift a body, lift the suspension, or add a telescopic anntenea to MS controller :( |
hmm i see what you mean...
man, now i feel retarded... :p i need some good clone-raping modding goin down... the only thing i got goin is a surefire lowering method.. ** edit: to avoid spamming, im gonna just edit this message... hmm yeah, i know what you mean for the one motor slowing down the faster one... not sure how this whole setup works as of now, it's getting late and im tired... :D |

Second, The wheels turn at close enough speed for now, I'm not running it a whole lot (for fear of it burning up) but I'm thinking I might want different drivetrain distribuision, like, 70/30% so its more FWD, so on launches it grabs better, and doesnt wheelie, but i dont know if that will screw up the full speed driving when the front tires stop pulling but the back keep pushing..(if that made sense) |
you should lower the truck body on it so it's right on the ground almost then add some rollbars to the back and well that's what i would do but i'm not you or ummm your not me or something like that. sweet job btw:D :D :D
|
well, to be honest, I dont know how to lower it...so I'll just have to wait and see till' i finish the body.
Thanks everyone for the positive comments...I will post up many more details when its totally done. (right now its kind of a mess...I got it running, but its not wired perfectly, and I'm afraid i'm gonna fry it, so I gotta re-wire it with fresh wires and good solder...+ i have to add 1 more cell and fit the body correctly.. Time for bed now though! Good night! |
can you show better pics of the steering?
|
There is no steering hog. He basically took two rears and transplanted one on the front.
|
that wouldnt be too fun.
|
Yes...as I said, its a strait line "top fuel" drag car.
|
you got any vids?
|
No vids yet, but i will try to figure out how to get one thats a small enough file.
|
You should try to put it together with a slight pivot point in the middle. Then you could hook up a 3rd motor to the pivot and steer it. Since it is a drag car, you could make the pivot VERY slight, so it wouldn't turn much at all.
P.S. Don't put 4 cells on there. Stop at 3. i put 4 cells with 2 motors on my Zap. It was the fastest thing I have ever seen. Both motors were in the rear. After 30 seconds of use, it was fried. What fried it was putting extra drag on the motors ie... holding the wheels under power, like pushing an object. Stick with 3 cells man. Or do 4 cells with one motor. That would be a whole different project, though. Good Job. Sorry bout the death of your steering, though. |
Yea, I gotta work on the center-steer, so I can adjust it a little...heres on video of it going it a semi-straight line lol..hopefully it works...*RIGHT CLICK - SAVE AS please, it works alot easier than clicking the link*
