In your opinion, which micro will be worth the most down the road? Not just the brand (i.e. Microsizer, ZipZap) but the make and model. Something that is actually/or was on the market. :) Don't say the Bit Char-G prototype. :P

Here's my opinion, but I want to hear everyones opinion and why.

I think the original Zips that are now off the market will be worth the most. Here's why....their numbers are a lot lower then Bit's and Sizers. Thousands of people wanted them, yet couldn't find them or weren't willing to pay the ebay prices which I don't blame them, but now they're gone. I'm using this theory because of what happened with my Star Wars collection. The most expensive action figure from the original Star Wars movie is the Hammerhead figure from the bar scene. Why? Because they made very few of them, but it wasn't popular. Now you see my confusion. :) Let's hear what you think.

We're at the beginning stages of a technology that is only going to get better. Which car is going to bring all us oldtimers to the auction block in 40 years?

zipzaps are junk. thousands of people wanted them because they didnt know any better.

I've heard the most valuable, and collectable mini RC is the Bit Char-G Disney Bus, that was only sold in the Disneyland Japan gift shop. last one I saw was going for 150 bucks.

i imagine the automodelista set and the mario ones and speed racer will be worth the most when we are all rubbing the ben gay on our hands to be able to squeeze the buttons on our controllers.

i think that bit char-g car that they only made 50 of will be most valuable since you couldnt buy it. so lots of people want it but never got the chance to buy it.

You mean that Toyota Voltz or Pontiac Vibe Bit? That was also a promo in Japan.

what about the xbox bit?

look at the baseball card and comic market. they came out with so many collectible items that they brought that market down around themselves.

with these things i dont think they will ever go up in value because in two years there will be something 10x better and your current cars will be collecting dust under your couch. i run my cars until they die and then go buy another one. well i usually buy that other one before the last car dies because i cant help myself.

I think that they made more Xbox Bits. They're pretty expensive though.

stridex: theres a good chance any clone that is 35 40 45 and 57mhz will be worth the most since you cant legally import them into the us.

If you understand Disney collectables. The Disney Resort Cruiser will be listed. Disney holds to there word. Once there number is meet, either my mfg only that number or pulled from the shelfs and destroy. Disney knows how to make only a certain number out there.

in 2003 no they aint. in 1998 or whenever they were real popular they were way way way beyond this rc car phenominon.

Hogjowls is absolutley correct. What's collectible today, might not be worth crap on the antique toy market in the future.

See the problem is that just about every single one of those Disney buses will be treasured, taken care of, and probably put away, and never used, because they are collectible, and the owners know it. What will more likely be collectible in 20 years on the antique market, will be the one that everyone had, and used, and there are just no longer any mint condition ones left. More than likely it will be complete sets, like the Skyline History set, Automodellista set, or even the Initial D set. Can you imagine how many of the extra hoods for the Trueno will survive over the years? Or just try to find a complete set of Skylines that haven't been painted, body dropped, etc. etc., in 20 years.

So you just never know.

It won't be the 4 Tomy Special Edition Skylines. Limited must mean limited to how many we can sell. Of course, I have all 4.

What makes something collectible? Right now I'm collecting everything I see. I've now spent well over $2000 and I'm not even close to being done. Just after reading a few posts, I went and registered and spent another $250 at toyeast.com (how fast do they deliver?).

I was visiting some websites the other day that had every Star Wars collectible known to man. I went through the ones I was familiar with. While I was there I saw some that I didn't have, but my close and best friend from across the street had growing up. It brought back some great memories and great Star Wars battles. I tried putting a price tag on them. What would I be willing to pay today for one still in the box? Well....I figured I'd easily pay $2500 for the large Millennium Falcon and $1000 for a Land Speeder. Those were the two I remember playing with the most that my friend owned. Can I still find those in the box? Probably, but there can't be that many outside of Lucas's closet. They sold thousands of these. I bet they sold more Land Speeders then they have Bit Char-g S2000's. Toy collectors are just envious kids that want what they didn't have. Knowing this, micro's will be a hot collector item. Question is still, which one(s)? Let's say you have a friend. He owns a clone. Let's call him Hogjowlz :D. He always comes over after school to race your Bit/Sizer. He always admires the quality of the body and how quiet it drives. But, for some reason he won't or can't buy one. 40 years later, he see's one up for auction. Hogjowlz is now married and filthy rich with four human cloned children. :D Is he going to be willing to drop a few thousand at an auction that has the car his buddy had that he always admired? It's still in the box and unopened. I'm going to say yes. And if his clone always beat his friend, he'd pay the same for a brand new one of those too.

There's no doubt in my mind, there will be some sick cash laid down on these in 40 years. Everyone is playing with these and not everyone can own every one of them. How many people have heard their friends ask;

Where'd you get that?
Damn, your car is sweeet!
Let me drive it.
I'm not racing you.
I'll trade you.

This craze is much bigger then Firby and Beanie Babies. Those have died out now, but trust me when i say, all those will be heavy collector items as well. You just have to wait for the generations that played with them to get older. Those hobbies, just like ours, are still very young.

wow that hogjowlz guy sounds like a very well hung individual.

around the time when georgie released the "special edition" movies, i had a friend who really got into buying/selling starwars toys. he pestered everyone he knew to sell the collections they had tucked away for years and put ads in the newspaper and went to trade shows. there were a few toys that were worth a lota cash ie.. a mint unopened original obi wan that went for 250$ i think. a few other things were worth more but 90% of the characters unopened are worth about 3bucks. thats in good condition. most of the stuff isnt worth squat without original packaging and accessories.


and no this craze is not anywhere as large as beanie babies or starwars. its still growing and may get that large but i doubt it will stick with anyone but gearheads and dorks like us. whats the collectors market like for rc cars from 20 years ago?

This was considered a "fad" in the SJ area. Only people I know of still racin are me. a few friends & the ***got wannabes at my school. Anyone got a pic of the Xbox one? I think the Pontiac Vibe one will be worth the most (Anyone got a pic of that either?)

i'd be inclined to say that in 40 years, those who want them will pay BIG money. those who dont (the majority of people) , or the kids who dont know anything will be like "my mini-rc is smaller than my pinky fingernail. that thing's an ugly ass beast and it's not even platinum plated, solar powered, or fuel injected!!!"

anyway. if i get filthy rich in the future, you can count on my buying up every BCG i can get my hands on. especially that 400 hundred dollar skyline @ sigma automotive! if i get filthy rich... if not, i'll stick to what i got now :(

which is gonna be the most valuable? i dunno... i'd prolly say supra, skyline or the FD (some kind of each one) cuz they're the true japanese supercars that are discontinued in real life... oh, and those funky gold/silver/weird bodies up at the BCG UK site..

Yea, the Nur Skyline would be pretty sough after, but you can simply find the right gold to paint a clear one.

I would say the AE86 hahaha :D it has cult following as the real car itself as well as in the R?C worlds.

This was the wrong post for me to start. I have almost everything you guys mentioned on order. As for the Disney Resort Bus and the other cars on Sigma for hundreds of dollars...those will have to wait. I must have them though. Has any one ever ordered from them and how was the speed and shipping costs?

The hardest thing I'll ever have to do is, not play with the Disney Bus. That thing looks way too fun. It's hard enough not opening up the Mario Cart. This is why I normally buy two of everything. Those are just too expensive for that.

Disney 1 offs, like the bus will.

Mario set will, esp if u sell it to a jap in the future, they love their toys (quite rightly so!)

X-Box, doubt it, we all have enough Microsoft in our homes as it is. the x box is a flop ne way.

BUT if microsoft do start making exceptional toys, and has a disney like status in the future ,then in a long time it will be worth money. But I cant see Bill Gates n his friends ever becoming "disney like, or collectable!"

I might buy a yoshi and mario now!

I think only the first generation Tomy's will be pricey in the future.

A couple comments on this excellent post.

To answer your question Stridex, Toyeast took 14 days (from the day my PayPal E-check cleared) to get a pair of Treuno & 2000 GT-R pull-backs to Minnesota, for $21 with shipping. I didn't think the price was bad at all and the shipping time was acceptable to me.

On the most valuable Bit, I think that ANY left in the package and those left un-altered will have the most chance of obtaining valuable collector status. Remember that these are intended, and marketed, as toys meant to be played with. Unlike most diecast cars these days, you will rarely see "Adult Collectable" or "Limited Edition" on a Bit package. And if you look at the posts on this board you get an idea on how many get modded.

While production numbers certainly can affect value, sentimental value can trump that in a second. A good example of is Hot Wheel Redline-era cars from 1968-1973. They made MILLIONS of these cars! Some of the most valuable tend to be those that are in mint/near-mint condition or are still packaged. Again remember that these were produced with the intent that they are toys to be played with. Those that escaped the sandbox or the bench vise (realistic-looking accident damage, you know!) are treasured and oftentimes EXTREMELY valuable today. I have spent a small fortune rebuilding the Redline collection that I had as a kid.

But at this moment in time I care little about collector value and I am having a blast modding some of my Bits and driving the wheels off these things :D

While we can't compare these to the Star Wars phenom (past and present) yet, we can easily compare these to Cabbage Patch dolls and Beanie Babies. IMO, this hobby is bigger then all of them. It's a technology we're grasping rather then an actual popularity craze. These make the individual happy, where the others became more of a status symbol. Example: You make one Cabbage Patch doll or Beanie and you have nothing. Where's the craze if they didn't advertise and mass-produce them? Now, if you made only one micro rc, someone just might kill you for it.

It seems a million companies are out there making these. Realistically, there are probably only 5. While Tomy hasn't sold more cars then Beanie Babies, all of the companies combined have probably doubled the Beanie sales. ZipZaps, Bensu's, MotorWorks, Bits/Sizers, Shen's, Panthers, etc... 3 of the most popular brands actually sold out before Christmas. Some Walgreens couldn't even keep the cruddy clones stocked. I've NEVER in my life seen a toy so widely sold. Seeing a store without these on the shelf was mind boggling. I almost expected Victoria's Secret to sell just the naked chassis'. I'm almost 30 years old and have never felt like this toward any toy. I actually remember, when I was younger, wishing that one of my matchboxes were remote controllable. I can only imagine how desperate I would have been, had these hit the market when I got my first short and curly. Ugh....to think of all the yard work I'd have to do to pay for my addiction. I stress this in hopes for others to realize that these have become an illness for some. Some of us just can't get enough of them. We can't put them down or pass one up. No matter how crappy it may look or be. If it's new, there are hundreds of us out there that are going to pick them off the shelves. Our numbers are only gong to grow. My advice to all of you, for the sake of my sons education, do not leave your micro packages left unopened. :D

If u think about it tho, look at the old mobile phones, the big things, the bricks, look how small they have become today, in comparison, rc cars havent become small at all!

Things like the motor and battery are the things that are difficult to make smaller.

Look at the charg, theres a big space next to the cell, we could save some space there!
