bmw 320i turbo lemans

ok i still have to paint, but its looking pretty good so far. this is the white plastic, when i get all of the detail to where i want it i will do it in clear. i am giong to go with the red dk blue and lite blue paint scheme on this one. and the charger is progressing below, but i need to work out the door and window details as well as smooth it out a bit... :) then it will be orange with the 01 painted on the side heheh YeeeeeeHaaawwwwwwwwwww!!

Spanky 02-09-2003 11:38 PM

well. i could get you that body,or you could wait a bit till i clean it up a bit more. that body is a bit long for a bit. but it might fit a zip zap pretty good. e-mail me so i remember when i get them finished to let you know.

xatu 02-17-2003 11:58 AM

No offence and all, but that Charger is a bit too square. And, the finished product isn't so great... Just had tu put my two cents in. Sorry if I offended you, just had to let you know.

Spanky 02-17-2003 01:07 PM

maybe you should read the threads as well as looking at pictures. that is an unfinished mold that that body that i decided to practice painting on. it has not even been completely cut yet. anyway i agree with you it is a bit square, but thats kinda how the chargers are. with the exception of how the fenders kinda curl under in the back and front near the bumpers.

in the revised mold that im making bodys from now, the car is narower, and the air ducts/foils on the hood and doors are more prominant. as well as the front and rear bumpers.

i do like critisism. if you think an area of a body needs improvment point it out. tellimg me that is off dosent help me too much. but i do understand where your coming from.

xatu 02-17-2003 01:09 PM

Ok, I understand now. thank you for not taking it the wrong way and start yelling and stuff at me.... :)

BTW, your cars are cool...I wouldn't mind seeing a 67 Shelby GT500 :D

Spanky 02-17-2003 01:18 PM

yea i painted that one orange and used it kidna as a guinea pig for testing those waterslide decals. i posted pics in another thread... although im not sure which one. it looks a bit off, but it aint terrible.... well maybe but its better than a gob of goo on top of your car. lol

xatu 02-17-2003 01:22 PM

Hey, it doesn't really matter what it looks like, as long as you treid...... I think it's pretty cool though :D

Spanky 02-18-2003 05:01 AM

heres a clear version of that bmw.

i almost hate to paint it.. but i am going to beging to paint and write a how to.. on painting these bodys for those that havent painted from the bottom befor. it will all be on my website.

xatu 02-18-2003 11:42 AM

 That's cool!

BTW, do you have a molding machine for these bodys or something?

Spanky 02-18-2003 12:15 PM

yes i do :D

xatu 02-18-2003 01:55 PM

......... :D How much did that cost ya?

Spanky 02-18-2003 02:52 PM

which the body or the mold?

xatu 02-18-2003 03:13 PM

The molding machine.

Spanky 02-18-2003 03:47 PM

i believe that the whole molding station cost about 3-4 thousand dollars.

xatu 02-18-2003 03:51 PM

     Well, I think I'll wait till my grandparents die.... :) Holy man, that's expensive, but prolly worth it once you sell about 1000 bodys you made!

Spanky 02-18-2003 05:06 PM

i didnt say that i paid for the machine.... hehehe

xatu 02-18-2003 05:08 PM

Lol, did you pay for it though?

Spanky 02-18-2003 05:11 PM

have the machine at work. so i only have to make sure i dont break it. and i had to get special clear plastic. the models that we make at work are always done in white. but im doing all mine in clear.

xatu 02-18-2003 05:15 PM

Well cool. I wish I had one nearby.....

Spanky 02-18-2003 05:20 PM

find someone that has a 3D printing machine and become their friend. if you have one of those, you can make flawless bodys. any body you want. the only drawback is that they cost about 100k.

xatu 02-18-2003 05:21 PM

Well....lets see, I'm 15, very lazy, and I don't know of any places that have molding machines.....

mbartell 02-20-2003 10:44 AM

vac formed?

Are you using a vacum former? I figured that's what you were doing, after looking at the shapes you are getting and the lack of undercuts. You used to be able to get them from micro-mark a long time ago, and they weren't that much, if I remember right.

As for making the original body bucks, I could see using a 3-D printer.

I like your exaggeration style, but you should make the top a little bigger on the charger, because of how honkin huge the bottom comes out. more of a deformed style- like the original bodies.

Spanky 02-20-2003 11:12 AM

yea i already did that.. i also emphasized the hood and door air scoop thingys, not bigger.. just deeper so that they are more noticable.. although it didnt need to much, when the body is fully cut out it looks a bit better. yea i am vac forming.. undercuts are possible, they just cant be drastic, i have been trying a few things that allow for an undercut on one side, usually front or backof car.. side mirriors are not possible. and wings are not very possible to do on the body.. but can be made seperate.
